The world\’s problems
2044 words by Jennifer Goodrich
The world is being faced with a number of serious problems in this day and age. These problems could range anywhere from one specific city or as big as being a world wide problem. But the fact that it is a problem is still there. But personally I feel that the world’s three largest problems are hunger, war, and decease. The reason I feel that these are the worlds three largest problems is because they plague every country in the world. Some of these problems may be more concentrated in a specific country but every country in the world faces these issues.
Well to begin with, hunger is a big issue in the world. Hunger is one of the world largest problems because the human body lives off of food and if an adequate amount of food is not supplied in the body then the body can\’t possibly live. Many people die everyday from starving to death. We live in a country that wastes enough food to feed another country. That is sad. There are so many mothers and fathers that just do not have the money to provide for their children. So their children’s weak and unnourished bodies die a lot of the time because their immune systems are not strong enough to fight off disease and bacteria. Although hunger is not one of North America’s largest problems there are still people that suffer severely from hunger in America. Even though there are a large amount of shelters and businesses that’s main goal is to feed the hungry but there are still those people who refuse help and those people who just do not no how to go about to get help. But we are fortunate to even have these programs whose main purpose is to help those people who are in need. In other countries their help programs are not as prominent as ours. I personally could not imagine starving to the point of death. I have never been hungry and had no means for getting food. It really saddens me to see small children who can’t provide for themselves starving. That has to be the saddest of all cases. I now we have all seen the “Save the Children” infomercial and I think we all have a soft spot for those poor children, regardless of rather or not it is true or not it really hurts to see those children in so much pain, physically and emotionally. I know it has to be hard for a parent to see your child so feeble and not be able to do anything about it.
Then there are the older individuals who can not help themselves. They are usually homeless people with no means of anything in the United States. But it is hard me to believe that these people are in as worse shape as those people in the poorer countries. I say this because we live in such a fortunate place that realizes that there people out there that needs help. They may need help because they might not have anybody else in their lives or they just are at a lost in their life at this point. But regardless of the situation America realizes that there are people who just need help so they set up services for those individuals. This is especially helpful to those individuals with children. But there are still those individuals that refuse help or just don’t how to go about to get help and there is basically where America gets its population of starving people. But this is very different in small poor countries. When starving adults are in situations that they can’t find a way out of they are not provided help like Americans are. And that is why that is why the staving population of small poor countries is so high.
Another big problem the world faces and has been facing since close to the beginning of time is war. War has been and probably will always be one of those things that just can not come to an end. I say this because there are always going to be people to disagree which eventually will escalate into countries disagreeing. So many innocent people die during a world that bigger problems probably were created than they started out with. But we can not solve a problem that does not have an answer. War hurts so many people in so many different ways. The people who declare war were usually are not the ones who actually fight in the war. But innocent people that don’t have anything to do with the declaration are the ones who fight and kill and die. Then this causes tremendous pain for their families. But war is something that we just can not get rid of, in my opinion. But war dates back long before the biblical times. War back then was less unfair that it is today even though it still is unfair that so many innocent people who die. But back in ancient times people had wars basically somebody had something that another person wanted so that person declared war to retrieve what they wanted. War is not as blunt as that anymore, but I’m sure that every war had some type of underlying selfish causes in them. But war is one of the world’s largest problems if not the largest, for the simple reason of so many deaths, so much money spent and lost, and for so much pain and suffering. Although there are just causes for some particular wars if not all it is just so horrible the things that take place during a war. The after effects are just as bad. It is amazing the cost of a war. The country is usually in huge debt after a war and there are an enormous amount of casualties after a war. I’m sure it has to be extremely hard to watch a loved one go off to war without a clue if they are to return or not, although I have never experienced that feeling. And the fact of the matter is war equals death and death usually equals pain and suffering for loved ones. War is a big problem for the world because so much money is being lost and the hatred between countries is growing and creating more problems. But the world is in a terrible state with war right now and most people do not realize that. If a war is not going on right under our noses we as a people have a tendency to not care. Besides the fact that people are dying and people are killing we do not care as long it is not our people that is very selfish!!! But like I said before I feel that war is here to stay. Don’t get me wrong there were good outcomes of wars. For example, a war freed the slaves. So I know that war does have its purpose in this world it is just a very large price to pay, literally.
Finally one the world’s largest problems are disease. Disease kills another person every second. For some diseases your destiny is death and there is nothing you can do about it. Its true that every body dies, death is just a part of living. But when disease comes into play it makes life a hundred times more difficult and can cut your life very short. The disease that is plaguing minorities today is HIV/AIDS. I had an uncle to die from AIDS so I know first hand the struggle it causes a person and their loved ones.
I honestly do not know what year he contracted AIDS but I do know he had to of had it for a while when I found out because he died within four years of my knowledge of his disease. AIDS is a tremendous problem in our country and other countries especially Africa. Africa has the largest AIDS population in the world and so many people are suffering from it. It is especially hard for people to live with AIDS in poor countries in Africa because the country just does not have the funding to treat n AIDS patient as an AIDS patient would be treated in America. And moreover AIDS patients that are poor themselves have a hard time getting treated because they can not afford doctor visits and the medicine is far too expensive. So when this occurred the patient’s life is shortened even more. So many mothers infect their unborn children with AIDS because sometimes they do not even know that they have this disease and many cultures in Africa do not use contraception and this causes even more people to get infected with this disease. Scientist and researchers are still trying to find a cure for this killer but they still have a long way to go. No one actually knows for sure where this disease originated but everyone has their own opinion on where it came from. I remember a something in one of our readings that made a reference to AIDS in the bible. If this is true maybe there is a good reason for this horrible disease to be on earth.
But there are numerous other diseases out there that are just as deadly as AIDS; cancer is definitely one of these deadly diseases. Over the course of the summer I have known three people to die from cancer. , They where all different cases but they were still cancer. One of these cases was a man under the age of fifty. He had colon cancer and when the doctors found it he was doing very horribly. The doctors even predicted about two weeks to live and this was around Easter time. But miraculously he began to get better he tried a few new medicines and had few surgeries and was doing 100% better compared to his beginning state. But early August I guess it just was not enough to help him and he died. Another man I knew had been battling lung cancer for at least a year and a half and was handling it well also passed away this summer. He slowly got weaker and weaker until he could not work any longer then he could not drive himself then he was put on bed rest and then a nurse had to come in and take care of him and then he eventually passed away and this is all a result of disease. There was another lady that I did not know too well but she battled with breast cancer for as long as I could remember and she even went into remission but that just was not enough to prolong her life any longer because she passed away this summer also.
Some diseases are unavoidable, I mean you can exercise regularly and eat right for your entire life you can still get a disease if it is in your family history because a lot of diseases are inherited. So I guess sometimes there is no way out. I do not know if I believe in pre destiny but I think inherited diseases kind of prove it. Because if you live your life completely healthy you could sill develop a fatal disease. So I guess that could be pre destiny if it is put that way.
With the three big problems that the world faces today the end result is usually death and I was always taught that when God feels that it was your time to go then it was you time to go and that it was no arguing with that. But it still is sad to know that before it is their time to go they know that their time is coming soon. Although everybody knows that they will die one day but I guess you look at it in a different light when you are terminally ill. And you also look at it differently because you are suffering so much. But I do feel that God has a plan for all of us so we should live our lives to the best of our ability.
