Response to the P.R.O.J.E.C.T and Bible Mystery Relations!!

2009 words by Monique Anderson

Well, I must say that the paper really drained my brain. I thought the blogs were challenging, in sense, that they must be at least 2000 words. I do not know if what I wrote was correct or contained enough information, but I do know that I reached the five-page minimum without adding in filler (I know that some people did, but I do not blame you!!) Thanks to all those people who commented on my P.R.O.J.E.C.T. and here are my responses.

Comment by Stephanie –I think that you out much effort into your blogging! I enjoy reading all of your entries, you were told to write what is on your mind and that’s exactly what you do! Keep up the good blogs!!
Response—I really have not put much effort into blogging because I did not see the point of it. Now I realize that blogging is actually fun if you take the time to write, you truly come out with quality work. I normally wait until Saturday to write my blogs, so that I why they all contain something about me not wanting to write them. If something is on my mind then I need to share it no matter what it may be. I am shocked that you read all of my blogs, but glad that you enjoyed them. Hopefully, I can keep delivering blogs that you will enjoy reading.

Comment by Whitney Washington –Hi Monique, my name is Whitney and I would like to say good project. I am not just saying that because it the same one you, a hundred others and me are doing. I am really saying this because teen pregnancy is an issue that hits home for a lot of us. When I say that I mean that we know others who are in this situation. I think that you have a lot of good ideas about the programs that you would put in place to begin attacking this problem. Like I stated in someone else comment board that I also think that it is a good idea for more that one person to do because we all have different ideas. Believe it or not the blogs that are on teen pregnancy have many different ideas, which is a good thing.
Response— I agree that teen pregnancy is a serious issue that a lot of us can relate to; maybe not personally, but I am sure that we all know or know of someone who has been pregnant as a teenager. I think it is a good idea that more than one person did a project on teen pregnancy because each person can add insight on the topic. I stated as a comment on someone’s blog that we all should get together and come up with one big project. It might be better for a group of people to work together as opposed to having many individual projects trying to be enforced.

Comment by Guynell Holiday–Monique, I think you have some good ideas that can prove to be very beneficial to many of the female teens growing up today. I suggest that you start small and let the project expand as the benefits start to surface. For instance, start at one school first to implement your plan and as you become more comfortable and experienced at setting up the group, you can start or assist someone else in implementing this program in another area or school.
Response—Your suggestion to start small and then expand is a very good plan. I think trying to go to big at the beginning stages would prove to be more detrimental to helping the issue than beneficial. By starting small, you can work out the kinks and perfect the program, so you will have a smooth running program to expand; not one that is jumps from problem to problem. Thanks for your idea.

Comment by Larika Evans –Monique I like all of your ideas and I think you will have much success with it. I agree with you when you say that girls need to be able to relate to the person who is speaking with them because personally that would be one of the only ways to get my attention. I like the fact that you have bonding days in your project because even if they might not realize it, support from someone is one of the best things you could have. Keep up the good work!
Response—Thanks, Larika!! It took me long enough to come up with a valid idea that would have a substantial basis. One thing I learned early is that if you cannot relate to something or someone it is less likely that you want to learn. I think that is why teenage girls are standoffish when it comes to talking about sex with their mothers. I guess it is the idea of talking to your “mother” who you could not imagine doing the things that you are going to talk about when in the back of your mind you know they did at some point in time. Anyways, I hope this thing works and thank you again for the encouragement.

Comment by RAE –Mo, girl, you have said it all. That is the same attitude that many of the girls in my hometown have about abortions and stuff. That is completely ridiculous! I just do not understand how a single girl could have that many abortions within a lifetime, let alone in high school. I have known some chicks to have about four or five abortions just during their high school years. Like I told K.P. in my comment for hers, “You would think the dumb broads would finally get the point and learn how to use some kind of protection correctly.” Someone does need to be there to teach these children about their bodies. That is why I believe your project is such a good idea. I know that it would have to be on a larger scale in order to notice the effects in the numbers of teen pregnancy, but we were told to write about three BIG problems that we see the world facing today. That is the key word “BIG.” In order to help solve any of these problems, our projects would have to be implemented all other the state or country depending on which was numbers were a problem. I know my project was on a major large scale, but my problems were BIG and the solutions were addressing the entire world as a whole because it is needed everywhere. Like I mentioned in the supplement to my blog, “I do it BIG.” This was something I had added to my previous project blog in order to justify its grandeur and then I later mentioned some ideas that were more focused on a local area involving Xavier University. I am in total disgust as well about the way some females abuse abortion and try to down play it as if it was not a big deal. Your project would be an excellent idea to help this issue, but only across New Orleans or the local area around Xavier University, since it must be completed within this semester. Anyways, good idea girl. I also see that you have your comments on Dr. Homan and our Theology class posted on here as well, but I do not think I will be getting into all of that today because I have things to do. Besides, you already know how I feel on that subject and I am sure everyone reading this feels the same. Well, good luck with your project. I hope that we all get A’s because it seems like many people are putting a lot of time and thought into this stuff so far. Keep checking up on here because you know one day I just might be in that mood and I will need to come back and add my comments and stuff about this damn class. (LOL) J
Response—I do not know where to begin to respond because I said it all in my blog and you reiterated that in your comment. All I can say is “Lord help us all!!” If something does not change about this problem we are going to have a society full of teenage girls raising babies along with a mess of other problems. Girls dropping out of school to have babies increase the illiteracy rate and decrease the number of educated citizens who will run the world in coming generations—VERY SCARY!!! I have not decided how and when I am going to go to a local school to talk to the students but hopefully I will figure something out in the next two weeks or at that matter before the end of the semester. Girl, do not go off about the class this week. You might need to save that frustration for another time. Good luck on your project.

Comment by Kamilah Jones –Hey Monique, I was just reading your blog and I think it is a good idea. When I was in middle school I was in a group called Girl Talk; it was sponsored by the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. The purpose of this group was somewhat similar to the program that you are trying to start, except it was more geared toward young girls coming into womanhood, instead of pregnancy prevention. Even though these two programs are different, I think that your program will be very beneficial to the young ladies in the community. We do need to have someone that we can trust enough to talk to, and we do need to know that there are people that share our same experiences. I think that this project will not only help prevent pregnancies, but it will also help these young women become stronger individuals. I hope that you are able to put this plan into action. If you need any volunteers, let me know. PEACE OUT!
Response—I am running out of things to say. So I will just say thank you for the complement and ideas and hopefully my project will be very beneficial for someone.

WEEK 6:

First, I must say that it has been hard keeping up with the readings because I do not have the syllabus ready to read at any time. What I mean is that, I do not have it in my notebook and it is hard to remember to get on the Internet everyday and see if there are any readings for the week. Yeah, we always have readings but getting online can be hassle with Xavier\’s bootleg Internet system. That is a whole other problem in itself. But the readings that I did read (I will admit that I still have not read the last couple of articles to completion) were very interesting. My favorite story was Tale of Two Brothers, which just happens to relate somewhat to my project.

The plot line in Tale Of Two Brothers revolved around a promiscuous woman. In the explanation of my project, I talked about how many teenage women ( I should call them girls) do not care about who they are sleeping with and when. I recently began reading this book about a woman who preferred to just have sex with men without knowing their name and had no intention of talking to them ever again. This may not be the case in the story of Tale of Two Brothers, but the urge of the wife to have sex with the brother was wrong and in a sense could have produced a pregnancy. Girls need to be aware of consequences for their actions and need to treat their bodies as if they were gold, a temple not to be entered by just anyone—get my drift. I do not think any of the other stories have any correlation to my project, but some were fun to read and others I feel asleep reading.
