Imp;ementation

Once agiain the reason iam am starting so late is because I had to sacrifice work.I going to finish all of my blogs because I am going to get al of them done over the Thanksgiving break. I am also going to have to write my paper over the Thanksgiving break to . This is going to be a very hectic break. I really do not consider this a break at all. But I cannot blame this on anybody but me. It is my fault that I waited soo long to start on my blogs but I am determined to finish all of my work because I need a good grade in al of my classes. The reason I am so late is because I have had other classes in which I have had to accomplish alot of work. I had to sacrifice doing work in a class so I had to choose this one. I am not happy about it but it is my responsibility to get the work done. I do not look at this class as an inferior class to my other one\’s I just have to make sure I have my grades up in my core classes for my major. My major is psychology pre- med and I hacve to make sure I have good grades in stats, chemistry, and psychology. But I still need to strive for a good grade in the class. I hope to get a B in this class. I think if I get a good grade on my blogs and do well on the paper and get a good grade on the final I should be able to get a B out of the clas despite the fact that I did not do well on the first exam in the class. But I can only blame myself for that , because I put myself in that predicament.
This is the week nine blog and i think this will be difficult blog to complete. I say this because it is not really alot to right about . So far I think that my project would be very succesful. I have proffessed my thoughts and beliefs to family members and friends of mine. All of them agree and did not get anything out of it. The only one\’s that actually got something out of it were my little cousins. I do not know if they were just looking up to me or if they were actually digesting the informations I was feeding them. If they were I hope I changed any of the hatred they had in their hearts. This is really the only work I have put into my project. But if i have changed anyone\’s thought process then I think I have partially done my job because there is one less person who does nothave hate in their heart for a group of people or culture. This also means that i might have prevented one less hate crime in the world.

If you do not remember what my project is about then here is a quick summary. There would be different workshops for each project so that people can learn from their ignorances. I think this is great idea and I wish I could actually set up an actual project where I could somehow have everybody go through certain workshops so that we could resolve my three biggest problems. I think the biggest problem out of the three would be the hate in the world. The hate that we have for one another is a big problem. I would set my project up by first giving it a name. The name of the project would be project \”destroy the hate in the world.\” I would have workshops for everyone in the world. In the workshops I would have everyone assigned to different groups. In these groups there would be one of every race. There would not be a minority in the group. There would an equal amount of each race. This way knowone would feel left outor thatthey have a disadvantage. This would done for the simple fact that in the world their minorities in each country. And usaully hate is in a country because the majority feel like they have more rights then the minority. The majority often feel like they are not eual to the minority and they can take away rights that the minority have because they out number the minority. This is what went on in the United States throughtout the mid twentieth century. The whites felt that they were better than the African Americans in the mid twentieth century. They thought that they were more intelligent and ahd more rights than the African Americans. They set up different restrooms and water fountains labeled for whites only and for colors only. Young black boys couldfnot even talk to young white girls, if so they could be beaten or even killed. In the 1950\’s a young man from my hometown Chicacago was killed for beign wrongfully accused for just looking at a white girl was put to death. Emmitt Till was hung in a tree. He was only a teenage boy and was put in an early grave because of corrupt people who had nothing but hatred in their hearts for someone skin color. In these workshops I would give them an explanation for the reason of their workshops. In this workshop they would have been told the story of Emmitt Till and I would explained why majorities should treat the minorities as equals. In my second workshop in the project I would ahve the different races converse with each other. The purpose of this workshop would be to learn different things about another person\’s culture. Beccause many times poeple have hate for another\’s race because they do not understand the other person\’s culture. Many times people are just ignorant to the customs of the other persons race. Every individual would be able to ask questions that they never knew the answer to about another race. This way there would be no confusion between the different races. I think the reasons we have so many different stereotypes about different races is because we nothing about that race. So instead of learning about that race we start making up false facts about a race. It shows that we are too lazy to find out about that race. We all have different steroetypes for every race. For example there are many stereotypes about African-Americans like all African-Americans eat fried chicken and all blacks are physically inclined. There are steroetypes that all Mexicans ride in low riders and do not have insurance on there vehicles and that all people from the Middle East are terrorists. These are just some of the many stereotypes. The only reason there are so many stereotypes because we as a people rather be ignorant and make false accusations about races. Many of these stereotypes could be avoided by just learning about another persons culture. The other apart of the workshop would be for the different races to just have a simple conversation with a person just so they would be able get to know another person from a different race. This is done so that people can find out that just because people are from a different culture they are still alike in some ways. This is done to help break down the communication barriers between the races. Also many of the stereotypes are started because people are just afraid of what hey do not know about a race. And when people are afraid of another the race they began to mamke up stereotypes about a race because it makes them feel better about themselves and their insucurities. This only proves the point that ignorance is bliss. This worshjop will help people to better understand another persons culture. Teh next workshop would include the people of different races getting a history lesson. This workshop is intended to help people better understand the things that a certain group of peoples had to endure through life. For example the Africans beign enslaved by the Europeans and forced to work for plantation owners in terrible and uncomfortable conditions. Or I would show them what the Irish people had to go through when they were enslaced by their own people. I would even show them how the Jews were persecuted by the Germans because of the brainwashing of one amn by the name of Adolf Hitler. These are just some of the examples that I would use to show the different cultures. I would show this because some people are blind to fact that people were persecuted. Some say that it was there fault that there people were persecuted but if you look at the many situatians the group that was persecuted were either a minority or had an inferior military. And the group of people that were doing the persecuting were the ones that had a motive to take over a group of people becasue of what a group of people had like there resources or just because they knew that the group of people were weaker in military forces or because they had smaller a population.
Here a some of the stats that I found out about hate crimes in the United States.Sixty-one percent of the incidents were motivated by racial bias, 16 percent by religious bias, 13 percent by sexual-orientation bias, and 10 percent by ethnicity national origin bias. The 7,947 incidents involved 9,895 separate offenses, 10,469 victims, and 8,433 known offenders.

Crimes against persons accounted for 72 percent of hate crime offenses reported. Intimidation was the single most frequently reported hate crime offense, accounting for 41 percent of the total. Damage, destruction, vandalism of property constituted 23 percent; simple assault, 18 percent; and aggravated assault, 13 percent. Twenty persons were murdered in hate-motivated incidents. As in previous years, hate crimes in 1995 were most frequently directed at individuals. Individuals comprised 83 percent of all reported bias crime victims for the year. Businesses, religious organizations, and varied other targets comprised the remaining 17 percent.

Here is what the FBI reported about hate crimes. The Federal Bureau of Investigation on February 13 released national hate crimes statistics for 1999 with more detail than it had offered in October. Reporting by local law enforcement authorities is voluntary and somewhat erratic, particularly with respect to homophobic attacks, but this year\’s filings reached a new high in participation with 12,122 agencies responding from 48 states and Washington, D.C., representing 85 percent of the national population. The total of 7,876 incidents reported broke down into 4,295 based on race (54.5 percent of the total incidents, with blacks representing 37.5 percent of all victims), 1,411 based on religion (17.9 percent of the total incidents, with three-quarters of these victims Jewish), 1,317 based on sexual orientation (16.7 percent), 829 based on ethnic or national origin (10.5 percent), 19 on disabilities, and 5 based on multiple biases. Although the variable reporting makes it inappropriate to compare exact numbers across years, the percentages by race, religion and sexual orientation are comparable to previous years. The U.S. criminal code does not recognize anti-gay attacks as bias-motivated crimes, although many state codes do.

Two-thirds of the reported incidents were crimes against persons, most often intimidation (35.1 percent of the total incidents) but also including simple assaults (19 percent), aggravated assaults (12 percent), and 17 murders—three of them against gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender (GLBT) victims. The incidents took place at a variety of locations: 28.7 percent on residential property, 18.5 percent on streets or in alleys, 10.2 percent on college or university campuses, and the rest at a range of sites.
To conclude the stats show why there are so many hate crimes. The answer is ignorance. If people were educated more about other cultures and races then maybe there would not be as many hate crimes. Peple are afraid of what they do not know. Many of the hate crimes are done because race, religous beliefs, and gender. If these are the reasons why people committ hate crimes then I believe my project can help these problems. Many of these acts are done, I hate to be redundant, because of ignorance.

I think that your project is a good idea. I think we have too many problems in this world because too many people are ignorant about too many things. I mean, as a society we tend to reject people, ideas and cultures simply because we don\’t understand them. When we are not rejecting these aspects of society,we are acting against these aspects. People end up getting hurt or even killed as a result of our ignorance. Violence would drastically decrease if we learned how to deal with our differences. I\’m not sure if you said this or not, but the best way to help us live together in peace is to not only learn about each other\’s differences but to realize that we are a lot alike the people that we seem to have nothing in common with. If you can effectively get this point across, then you will make a world of difference. I wish you the best and God bless!

I am in the same predicament as you. I am trying to keep a good grade in psych, math and science. There just is not enough time to do everything and you have to pick and choose what is important. I am a psychology major in the pre-med program also. I am not very good in science so I have to spend more time on that than anything. I think you picked a good project. People need to be aware of other people’s cultures. It is essential to being able to live together. I would suggest starting off with younger kids. Another girl used them for her project. They are easier to talk to and are like sponges. They soak up whatever you give them good or bad, so why not give them something. I really did not get to finish reading your blog but I thought that would be something you could use.
