Grade Yourself (week# 14)
691 words by Harmony Spears
Hello everyone, it has been a long time since I was on this website. I have been so busy trying to study, catch up on work, and get myself ready for exams. This week I had a test every day including the exams we have just taken. It has been a very stressful week and just when I thought it was all over, I got another heartbreak. My boyfriend\’s aunt died on Wednesday, but my mother and his mother thought it would be best if I did not know about it till Saturday when I finished my exams. Their thought was nice and the intent was good, but that meant that all my plans went down the drain. You see my boyfriend and I were both left out of the loop about his aunts passing. He was coming home from Atlanta on Friday night and I was going to be taking my last exam on Saturday morning. After my exam I planned on staying at Xavier till about 11 or 12 noon so that I could finish my blogs and he could get a good rest. All those plans went down the drain Friday night, when we were both told that his aunt had passed and the funeral was tomorrow, so dress up, it is for 9am. Besides the fact that my exam was for 8a.m. and the funeral was at 9 a.m., I still had homework to do for you Dr. Homan. I couldn\’t just not show up for the funeral though, I mean what kind of girlfriend would I be if I was not there through the good and bad times. So that meant your work got pushed to the side and I was left praying that you would not get to my name till at least monday. I got three hours of sleep on Friday night, woke up for 7 a.m. took my exam, rushed to the funeral, then to the burial, then to the repass, then to his grandmother\’s house, and finally to his house. Nevertheless, I did not get home untill 3 a.m. so as you can see I had a rough week and even worse weekend. So for all those who read this blog, can you please keep my boyfriend\’s family in your prayers.
I am sorry if I seemed to be rambling, but I need to get the stress out in some kind of way. Back to the matter at hand. This week, we are supposed to grade ourselves on our projects to save the world. I have to honestly say Dr. Homan, based on your scale, I would have either a D or an F. I mean honestly, according to your scale, A-B-C are blogs that have 2000 words everyweek and few gramatical errors. I have never had two thousand words and have probably had a few gramatical errors in every blog, but waht I can say is that even though I do not have 2000 words every week, I do feel that I get my point across. My project ended up being harder that I expected, especially since no one that I wrote letters to responded to me. I do feel that I did my best and even if I did not get anything accomplished with this project, I did get something accomplished on one of the other two. For the project on voting that I mentioned earlier in the semester, I did do alot with that one. On the day of the presidential election, not only did I sit in line for a hour before coming to school late, but I also went to the National Urban League on Canal Street and made several hundred phone calls to remind people to go out and vote, I did voting poll tallies to see how the wards in New Orleans were doing with voting, and went to some of the voting stations and got voters to do surveys on the voting experience (i.e. the wait, clarity of what was being voted on,etc.). So what I lacked in one project, I feel that I picked up the slack with the other.
