Here is exactly what I did!

Week 13: Blog exactly what you have done to improve the world regarding your project. This blog does not involve future plans, but actual things you have done this semester to implement your project. Post at least two pictures about your project.
Here are things I have done so far with my project to satisfy this course:
I have coordinated pick up times for the food from each church and coordinated volunteers to attend different food drives and support activities of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. I am proud to say that I so far have logged twelve hours and coordinated five other people to volunteer in this year’s 2004 Feed a Family food drive. That is a total of 72 hours with all of us combined. Aside from earning these hours while donating our time and effort, we also met some other wonderful people in the community wanting to make a difference in the world and combat hunger. The drive actually lasts for almost a month but we volunteered for the last two days. One of the ways we assisted was by dropping off the food each of the four churches had collected for the past three weeks and assisting in sorting and stocking in the warehouse. I actually worked up a sweat.
The Thanksgiving holiday was another time where I volunteered my time at my church’s annual “Feed the Less Fortunate” activities. On Thanksgiving Day, the church opened to serve meals from 11 AM to 3 PM. In past years I would volunteer my time by serving those who would come in or by prepare plates for pickup and delivery. This year I got out of my comfort zone and was given a random list of names to make deliveries to those who are immobile like the elderly and disable. This was a great experience for me one of which I will treasure. It felt good to know that I could make someone that I did not know feel special and cared for. Some of the people I delivered to do not have family, live all alone, and miss the company of someone who cares. I always pray that the time I do give makes a difference in the lives of others. I did not think in the beginning that this project would matter to me much but it does. It matters not because it is something I have to do for a grade but because it is something I feel helps others in their life and from this project, I have volunteered my time at a time that was other than the Thanksgiving and next, Christmas holidays. With the four churches that I have partnered with, I have food bins there year round with scheduled pick ups from the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank on a monthly basis and for that I am happy. Happy that it is something that I am a part of and that I helped make happen.
