Bible Babies

My project was about sexual education programs in the schools, which I felt would help to decrease the number of teen pregnancies, a prevalent problem. If a person is more aware of the consequences, then that person is less likely to make the same mistakes, but or course some people never learn. They have to make someone else’s mistake their own, before they realize they didn’t even have to deal with that situation. I don’t feel that any of the stories that we had to read from blackboard so far related to my project. Although nothing in the bible directly relates to my project or the problem, there are many areas in the bible that deal with young mothers that have babies. In Genesis 25:19-34, Isaac prayed to the LORD that is wife, Rebekah, would get pregnant because she was barren. She became pregnant with twins. When the twins jostled inside her, she asked GOD what was going on. He told her that there are two nations in your womb that will be separated and one will serve and be stronger than the other. Esau was born first and then Jacob. The boys grew up to be very opposite. I don’t know how old Rebekah actually was, but let’s just say she was young and she liked older men strictly for the purpose of this blog. Although she had a husband, she was a young mother that had a baby, well two babies so it can kind of relate. I want to comment on what GOD told her about the two nations in her stomach. Whoa Nelly! I would have been a little disturbed by that, ok well maybe more than a little. You know what, I would have been a lot freaked out (Does that make since?) about that. The next reading that I did was about the birth of Moses and then the birth of his son, Gershom. In Exodus 2: 1-10, a Levi man married a Levite woman that gave birth to a son. When she saw that her son was well, she hid him for three months. When she could hide him no longer, she wrapped him up and put him in a basket. She then put the basket in the Nile River, near the banks. I’m sure everyone knows why she put the baby in the Nile, but if not then I’m about to let you know. This was around the time when the Pharaoh wanted all Hebrew newborn baby boys killed. He wanted them killed because he had seen how numerous the Israelites were. The Pharaoh feared that if a war broke out then the Israelites would join his enemies and fight against him. Read Exodus 1 to get the in-depth version of what I just told you. While the pharaoh’s daughter was in the river bathing, she saw the basket. She opened up the basket and saw the baby crying. She decided to keep him and paid one of the Hebrew women to nurse him. When child got older the Hebrew woman gave the baby back to the pharaoh’s daughter. The Pharaoh’s daughter named the boy Moses, because she drew him out of water. I also want to comment on this story. Putting the baby in the river could be considered a form of abortion, except the difference is that this mother wanted her baby to live and many young mothers would have hoped their baby died, because they were not ready to take care of this little life they brought into this world. In Exodus 2:21-22, Moses married Reuel’s (a Shepard) daughter, Zipporah. Hey, I have a friend back home named Zipporah. I work with her at Body Shop. Anyways Zipporah gave Moses a son. He named him his son Gershom, which I’m guessing meant I have become an alien in a foreign land, or something of that nature. What’s up with people naming there kids after things like what they did or what they feel. If my parents would have done something like that might name definitely wouldn’t be Dionna. They were in the military so it might have been something like Armory, which really isn’t the worst name I have ever heard, or Artillery, something crazy like that. Some people in the bible have fairly normal names. Moses and Rebekah don’t sound so bad, but Gershom and Esau are kind of funny. Although this is my blog and my opinion, I want to apologize to anyone I might have offend by talking about names. I wasn’t intentionally trying to be mean, if that is what anyone thinks. I just thought it was a little funny how people in the bible get their names. I’m pretty much done with my blog, but I don’t have enough words. So I’m just going to talk so I can get full credit for this. I think I’m behind with my blogs, as a matter of fact, I know I’m behind. I don’t know how that happened though. I was doing a blog every week. I think it was the Mardi Gras holiday that messed me up. I barely did any type of homework. The only thing I did was study for Chemistry 1020 exam and wrote the paper for this class. I worked really hard on both but neither one of them came out the way I wanted them to. That kind of thing kills your spirit. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday, it put me off track a little bit. I think I’m just about caught up. After I take this midterm, hopefully I’ll be back on track. I got up early this morning so I could catch up on all my work. I have 2 classes today; one at tree and one at 4, so I hope I get a lot done. I finally found of what blog actually stands for, web log. It’s not as impressive as I thought it might have been but, some things never live up to expectations.

Hey, Dionna. How is the rest of your project going? I like the idea of implementing more sex education classes in highschools. I had no idea that so few states had these classes and that they were not mandatory. I don’t think my highschool had a sex education class, but my grade schools, which were Catholic, certainly did, and they taught us from the Catholic Church’s point of view, which is against birth control. So, that was interesting, and alot of girls in our school got pregnant later on. Kids need to be taught about sex and how to protect themselves. They need to be taught abstinence and protection. I guess you could write some chair of an education board and ask them about sex education classes and how to begin implementing them in schools that don’t have them. Great project!
