Theology 1120-week 1
503 words by Charris3
As long as I can remember, I have been a Christian. Therefore, when I found out that I had to take Theology 1120, I had no objections. On the first day of class, I was about 2-3mins late because I was lost, and ended up on the fifth floor in the Pharmacy department. (I felt so stupid, lol.) Now I already hate being late unless it is no way to get around it, so I was mad. However, I am thinking, “well it’s the first day of school. I couldn’t have missed that much in 3 minutes”. You know the saying ASSUME makes a donkey (lol) out of you and me? This is so true. When I entered, the class had already started discussing something I was not familiar with, and it was not the syllabus. At this point, I am nervous. I thought I missed the introduction, and I was not marked presence all because I was late three minutes, and he didn’t even give me copy of a syllabus. For this, I already got the idea that Mr. Homan did not play around. Most teachers at Xavier have this same philosophy of using every minute for learning. This is great, “but on the first day?” I felt bad. Despite that, I manage to get a notebook out quick enough to jot down notes as I listen to the lecture and viewed the show on 586 BCE and Lamentation. Now I expect to learn more about the bible, its purpose, and how/why, I should apply it to my life. For this being Theology, I know that it is more that just discussing common/typical topics. I am very interested in the bible because its fascinating learning more about what you believe in. I did not actually choose this class, it was assign to me because it a graduation requirement, however, I am glad I get to have this experience. This does not directly affect my career choices, but I must continue to believe in GOD in the field I am going to, which is the medical field.
Dr. Homan discussed 586 BCE and the lamentation. BCE is important because GOD allowed the first temple to be destroyed, and it was a wonder why he had done such a thing. Now the lamentations is
The geographical setting of the Antiquity period was significant. I believe its significance really is showed when exiles would be taking out of the homes. When people are placed in an environemet that is unknown they are less likely to rebel. It was also thought that it was the centered of the earth. Now if it was in New Orleans it wouldn’t be that muc different because he countries were as small as the=is small city, however the big body of water might ause som hindrance. Yet, I believ OD would have been able to do all that he have done no matter the locaton. (I hope that answer the question.)

I still believe this. I hope it answer the question, I know it is short and to the point. But it is true, I believe this event alone is the root of why we study theology. The question of is ther God? Some question it because bad things like 586 BCE happen, very similiar to Katrina. They think if God is all knowing and all powerful, how things like this happened. In my opinion God has to show you he is real by taking you through an obstacle and bringing you out. We also have to remeber that the devil is real too, so of course bad things are bound to happen!
