My Project

827 words by ShaQuanda Sanders

In the beginning, I started this project because I wanted to help out with a solution to alleviate hunger; a problem that I thought needed some attention and quick. I thought this was one of the world’s most serious problems that we’re being faced with today, although I still believe that, there is one other issue that has just come to my attention is that most people do not even give a rat’s tail one way or another about what is happening around them even if it does affect them in the long run. These people will even go so far as to steal and manipulate what has already been accomplished and done, or pretend to be something they are not just so they can gather the goods and receive good will that was supposed to be meant for people with real needs.
Anyway, like I mentioned in an earlier blog, I participate in volunteer program brought together by neighborhood church organizations to help people of their community that are not as fortunate to have a nutritious meal everyday. (Since I got ripped off, I have to work on replenishing the funds for my project as well; I think it was an inside job). So, I’ve got two weekends worth of work under my belt already, and I have worked a total of 6 hours two days each weekend. When you really think about it and compare how many people I helped to feed to the number of people there are that are suffering from hunger, it might raise an eyebrow, WHAT AM I DOING? But there is a method to the madness here. Over the past couple of weeks I have also developed another project on the side. It is to help someone learn to help others, get rid of our selfishness, most of all come together and do something to little by little change the problems that are affect our planet.
My plan with the Xavier’s MAX program Hunger Coalition did not exactly work out with my busy schedule, so obviously I had to jilt it and try something else. Being involved with so many different things makes it difficult to get them completed. Choices have to be made, and priorities have to be set. Being involved with that program would have really given my project some points on the improving the world side of the scoreboard, but I have to do other work that would have conflicted with that project, so I had to let it go. Not saying that helping the world is not important because it is; I’m just not using this particular organization to help move along my project. Instead, I will use other method that will have the same effect but will not conflict with other responsibilities that I have to do as well.
I still plan to contribute some time to community service in and/or around the New Orleans area. My initial plan was to cover a larger area outside of New Orleans, but I recovered my senses and decided to stay within the borders of the city. My hopes are to help out either way I can and to get more people to see that we need to be involved because this situation is not going to get any better by itself. I want to influence outsiders to develop plans to try and help to alleviate this problem and other problems they see as well that not only affect those who suffer from it directly, but also every else around them. Everyone must work together to find a solution to solve this problem because it is not just one person’s problem anymore. It is everyone’s problem now, and it is only going to keep getting worse. Therefore it is everyone’s responsibility to try and come up with a solution to make it better for us all to live.
It is sort of funny, as I read back through this blog entry, it seems that the purpose of the project that I started out with has changed. Well, in a way it has, I’m not going to change the project, just my reasoning behind it all. I not only want to help people get in a better position (a position where they are not suffering from hunger to the point that it leads to medical conditions), but also coming from a different angle, working on society’s attitude toward anything that happens to be different from them. People have to understand that they could have been born in the same situation, or not even born in that situation. They could have come across negative circumstances that put them in that situation They should take a step back and take a look at the big picture. See how they would feel to be in that position and be ignored.

I think your project is a good idea. Many people are dying fro, hunger because they are as not fortunate as others. Keep working on trying to do that. It will be very interesting to see on how your project working. Keep it up.

It looks like to me that you asre becoming a more genorous and righteous woman. I love the idea of your project and also the idea of you doing other things alos to help the less fortunate out. Your work is not going unseen and I hope that you believe that. Good Luck!!

Helping the unlucky one is a good idea to start off. Trying to create Xavier‚Äôs MAX program Hunger Coalition seems hard but don’t stop trying. The less fortunate people can surely appreciate your project because you are helping them to survive.

Trying to start a MAX program will be very hard work but i hope you keep trying. There are a lot of unfortunate people in the world how need help. I lot of people could benefit from your project. I hope you get a chance to go through with your project. There are a lot of people in this world who are dying from hunger and it should not be that way. Good luck on your project.

I am glad that you are helping to feed the hungry. I am sorry that you got ripped off but the fact that you are sticking with it and forming other projects shows your drive and dedication. Two weeks worth of work under your belt is a lot. You have made a difference in people’s lives. Good job.

This was a great project that was implemented. I read and met a lady named Gerda Weissman Klein who was a Holocaust survivor. When she described her hunger and stated that the only thing that she wanted was to have one thing to eat. She had minimal food and said that out of all that she had been through one of the worst things was hunger. Therefore, I feel that helping people alleviate this problem is a great idea. Good Luck!

I also believe that hunger is one of the world’s greatest problems. People can still survive with emotional drama and pain, but they cannot survive without food. Many people are starving and they need support from the more fortunate. Good luck and I hope you will succeed.

That’s good that you were able to find out something else about your project. I’m sure it was there all along but it took something special for you to realize it. Anyways, I weish you well on continuing your project.

Six hours of time is better than no time at all. I think we all need to feel like we’ve made a large change in order for our projects to seem effective. The truth is a little change is still a change. I commend you and wish you the best of luck in getting your MAX program off the ground. The only thing is don’t talk about it, be about it! It can happen just stay focused on what you really want ot accomplish and it will come out ok. anyway good luck girl, I hope all is well with ya.

I agree that alone with helping to alleviate hunger one must also take a moment to assess the attitudes of fellow man toward the hungry. For instance, I once met a homeless person (who was also hungry) who said that the one thing he can’t stand is for people to look at him and then look away as if he is not human. Just llike anybody else, whether hungry or homeless or not, we all wanted to be treated with kindness and respect. I like your approach to addressing the issue of hunger, for maybe in changing people’s attitudes you can also change their outlook as far as making positive change. My only suggestion would be for you to develop a more study outline of what you want to do. Getting ripped off sure sucks, but I am sure you will bounce back. Good luck.

Fighting the battle of hunger is sucha noble task. If we could give people the things that they need we would alleviate such much of the chaos in the world. people do the craziest things in order to survive. we may think that we would never sell our daughters to a sex ring, but if you have 5 other daughter and only 2 dollars a day you may think differently.

This is a great topic to do your project on. This is most definitely a major problem our world faces. I’m glad to see you sticking with your project and I hope it works out. Good luck, and continue on with the good work.
