I am not truly concerned with the racial aspects of this disaster. I would feel the same way about my project if it were all white people who were left in the city. You may believe that it is a race thing, but the white people in the city who did not have transportation were not evacuated out. There were whites stuck in superdome and convention center. I definitely don’t think that it is about being poor. I know the culture of the black people in New Orleans. Many of these families do live in the projects, but they receive food stamps, welfare, childcare, and any other government money that they can get. My family receives none of this money. I see people walking out of the projects with $500 worth of gold teeth in their mouths, $100 pair of tennis shoes, $300 worth of jewelry, and $150 outfit, and we call these people poor. They are not poor, they just don’t want anything for themselves. But just because they choose to live like this does not mean that they should be neglected by the city, the state, or the government in the case of a natural disaster. Thanks for the comments.
