Week 3- Knit, Knit, Knit Away

I will team up with Sally Le in carrying out this project. We were actually surfing through one website to another so that we can find some ideas on how we can help hospitals. All of a sudden, we landed on a website called www.carewear.org. Basically, this website explained that anyone can make and donate clothes to the hospitals for babies and young children. Moreover, one can knit, crochet, or even sew the clothes. There were several hospitals listed on the website so that we could sought out and learn more about this program. One of the closest hospitals that we saw listed was West Jefferson Medical Center. So, we found directions to the hospital, and then we drove to it. Luckily, we did not have a hard time locating the hospital.

Anyhow, when we walked into the hospital, we did not know where to begin. Unfortunately, the information center was closed on the weekends. Apparently, our face expressions probably looked lost because a nurse approached us and asked us what our destination was. Quickly, we explained our purpose for being there, but the nurse did not know where to guide us. So she suggested to us that we should ask the woman in charge of the gift shop. Finally, we were able to get some answers. The nice lady in the gift shop confirmed that there is a program that has women crocheting and sewing clothes for babies. She further expressed her approval that we are volunteering to do this. Therefore, my partner and I knew that we can succeed in accomplishing our goals. So, the lady told us that the staff members will definitely agree with my partner and me lending them a helping hand. The only thing left to do is to contact the number that the lady provided for us and to set an appointment, which we will do this upcoming week. In doing so, we will find out the list of clothes or accessories that they need for us to sew or knit for them. Sally and I walked out of the hospital with smiles on our faces because we were making progress with our plan.

Since we were so enthusiastic with the project, we went to a nearby WalMart to purchase some materials and tools for knitting and crocheting. We spent nearly half an hour trying to decide on the colors for the yarns. Because the trip to Walmart was unexpected and we did not think to plan ahead to go to Walmart after leaving the hospital, we had a limited amount of money on us. Therefore, we were only able to purchase a few set of yarns for the time being. We had fun picking out the right colors and comparing all different types of yarns. After realizing that this project may be a bit expensive, we discussed about doing several bake sales later on to raise money that will go towards the materials for knitting the clothes. Homemade cupcakes, muffins, and Krispy Kreme donuts etc. immediately came to our minds. Surely, the bake sales will help us out with the budget.

While we were flipping through the instruction manual for knitting and crocheting in Walmart, I saw many beautiful designs that I want to work on. However, I will have to admit that I have little experience in knitting and crocheting, but I am excited to learn and try my best in this project. I might even have a new hobby after this project, so I am absolutely up for the challenge. After we learn how to knit well, we want to recruit more people in joining this program. From family to friends, and elementary schools, I hope that many people will be as enthusiastic as I am after I spread the words around. We actually like the idea of going to an elementary school and teaching kids to knit as well.
For every so many sets of clothes that will be completed, we will personally make trips to the hospital and deliver the clothes. The clothes will be made and go mainly towards babies and children. I plan to knit blankets, scarves, hats, mittens, and shirts. This is a great way to help out parents who are not able to provide the necessities for their newborn babies and children. Also, these clothes will certainly provide warmth for the babies.

There are many similarities and differences between Genesis and the Enuma Elish. Some similarities include that there are seven tablets in the Enuma Elish, and there are seven days of creation in the Genesis. The order of occurrences of events in both Genesis and Enuma Elish and Genesis are pretty similar. Additionally, the seventh tablet of the Enuma Elish is all about praises for the deities, and the seventh day in Genesis is portrayed as the rest day or Sabbath day for God.

Differences in Genesis and Enuma Elish are that Genesis focuses on one God, while Enuma Elish has many God involved in the creation of earth. For example, there are deities of the sun, moon, oceans, and stars in Enuma Elish. In Genesis 1, God is depicted as all-powerful and omnipotent. Furthermore, for the verse: “Let us make humans in our image according to our likeness, and rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the animals and all the land,” the word rule means responsibility to take care of the planet. The creation stories in the Enuma Elish were very superstitious because they see what happens in the sky and universe to make up the story. In addition to Genesis 1, there is also a version of Creation in Genesis 2.

A story was written of how the deities form the earth because it is to show the beauties of the description of the deities. Also, there is a parallel between Enuma Elish and the Bible. That is Yahweh kills Rahab and Leviathan, which are primeval dragons of chaos. In other words, the deity kills the sea monster so that the sea can be calm. Moreover, humans are made out of dirt, and there is divinity in humans.

Archaeology is the study of material remains, and it has helped Bible scholars in many ways. There are relics that are something valuable and tangible that scholars can study and date back in the time of Jesus. Furthermore, discoveries of ancient language that was written on pieces of tablets have been found before. Archaeology will further verify and confirm the dates and history of events in the Bible. It will help us to understand the Bible and explain unclear passages in the Bible.
