In this blog I decided to send letters to President Bush, United Teachers of Las Angeles (UTLA), Tulane Hospital, and Dean of Xavier University. In most of the letters I discussed my problem and the projects I am involved in. I also gave suggestions on how to get people more involved in volunteering and improving the world.
To: President Bush,
Regarding: My ideas of improving society

President Bush my name is Tyra Reece and I attend Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. I am a sophomore, chemistry-premed student and I am currently enrolled in a theology course where I have been assigned to choose a problem I feel is facing the world and do a project to help improve it. The problem I felt the most about was the inconsideration of people. I believe the United States especially has a attitude in terms of looking out for oneself. The projects that I am attempting to help improve my problem is the big/ brother sister program where I volunteer my time to be a support system for younger kids. I’m also volunteering to spend time with elderly people. I feel that I’m giving back to my community and looking out for others instead of myself. I would like to ask you President Bush do you think you’ve given enough back to the community? This is a question I would like to ask to a lot of people and also one I’ve asked to myself. Have I done enough to improve the world? There are so many things to be done and so little people who are willingly and able to help. Besides volunteering with kids and elderly people there are so many more things I want to do, but I have to come to the realization that I am only one person and I can only do so much. I hope this letter has inspired you to want to volunteer. My goal by the end of my project is to have given back to the community and inspire others to get involved. Thank you for you cooperation in this matter.

In Regards To: My Ideas of Improving the World

My name is Tyra Reece and I am a sophomore, chemistry pre-med major at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. I am currently enrolled in a Theology class where I am assigned to pick a problem in the world and do a project to improve it. The problem I picked the world is facing is people’s everyday selfishness. I believe our society is based on people looking out for themselves and that’s why we are in the economic decay right now. I picked two projects to focus on to help improve the problem. One of my projects is that I’m a big sister to a kid, and I am to suppose to serve as a leader and a positive role model. My other project is that I volunteer with elderly people and show them affection and time. I’m writing to you because I believe there is a lack of volunteering among our youth generation. I researched on the internet and I found a lot of statistics on youth volunteering, and even though they were high, they didn’t reach my expectations. I know for some schools is a core requirement to have some volunteer service to graduate, but me being a high school graduate, I don’t think that is strictly enforced in the school system. I suggest maybe putting it as a elective course, or having certain days set aside for students to volunteer. I hope you will take my suggestions into consideration and I thank you for you cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely, Tyra Reece

Regarding: My Ideas of Improving the World

My name is Tyra Reece and I am a sophomore, chemistry-pre med, major here at Xavier University. I am currently enrolled in Theology with Dr.Homan as my instructor. I was assigned to pick a problem that the world is facing and do a project that will help in improving the world. The problem I see facing the world is the lack of consideration of people. I think our society is based on a selfish type of attitude where people look out for themselves. My way of improving this problem is two involve myself in two projects. One of my projects is that I’m a big sister to a younger child; I am to serve as a leadership role in her life. I know a lot of kids need someone to look up to and I would like to be a positive role model. I’m writing this letter because I think Xavier University could enforce my ideas of volunteering. I have some suggestions like having a day set aside for the students to come together to volunteer and give back to the community. The aftermath of Katrina has left New Orleans in a state of help. Even though a lot of volunteer services are offered not that many students participate, like myself. I think if their was a good enough advertisement for students to come volunteer than maybe if would be more effective. I hope by writing this letter that I have aroused some ideas to you and also Xavier Staff. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

The problem I picked was that there is a lack of consideration of people nowadays. I believe people look out for themselves. One project I picked to improve the world is becoming a big sister to a younger kid. I want to prove myself as a good leader and give back to my community. My other project is dealing with helping out with the elderly people. I believe volunteering is a way to solve the society’s problem of selfishness. I’m writing this letter in hoping to urge you to want to recruit more volunteers to your establishment. Volunteering at a hospital allows people to put others people needs before theirs. I suggest that advertisement will persuade people especially college students to volunteer. I would be available to help in such a activity if it is wanted at your hospital. I thank you for your corporation in this matter.
Sincerely, Tyra Reece
African American Critisim is helpful to bible scholars because it proves that African Americans even existed in the bible. The bible mentions a lot about Egypt, which is in Africa. Criticism also can help in the argument of proving if God was black or not.
