Week 11

I would like to start off by thanking everyone who took the time out to comment on the progress of my project and giving me suggestions on how to improve it and make it a better progect over all.
Tobit is a grave digger and he buries Jews even though he is told by the king not to.Tobit is a man who married a woman named Anna and they have a son named Tobias. Tobit is considered to be one of the ten lost tribes. One morning he waked us and can no longer see since he slept against the way with eyes opens and a bird dropping landed in his eye. Tobias travels to various places to get money. While he is off at one place, he meets a woman named Sarah. Sarah wants to die because she had been married 7 times and each time he husband is killed by a demon on their wedding night. Sarah and Tobias fall in love and want to get married, but are concerned that the demon will come and try to kill Tobias. The two decided to get married but are ready for the demon. Sarah’s father digs a grave for Tobias because he thinks that Tobias will end up just like the rest, dead. They burn incense using fish’s liver and heart in the room and it makes the demon run away when he enters the room and Tobias and Sarah are able to have a peaceful wedding night. Tobias takes a fish gall bladder and rubs it in his father’s eyes and suddenly his father’s eye sight is restored.
The moral of the story is that when you think things are bad they could always get worse and you should never give up no matter what. You must keep faith and know that when the time comes God will show you way and your prayers will be answered. You also must be careful about what you pray for because it just may come true. Both Sarah and Tobit prayed to die and their prayers could have very well been answered but instead God sent them a blessing. Sarah was able to find a man that she loved and was able to marry him without him dying. Tobit was finally able to see again. Even though times are hard you have to keep your head up and know that they were be a brighter day that will come after the storm.
People consider the Maccabees to be heroic due to the fact that he is famous for leading the revolt against the Geeks in the name of the Jews. At the time Antiochus IV was ruling over Jerusalem and began to outlaw a lot of traditional Jewish customs. The situation got so bad that things that Jews had practiced for years began to get questioned. When Jewish and Greek boys would play together and the Jews say that the Greeks were not circumcised, they were ashamed at the fact that they were different from the other boys. In order to fit the Jewish boys would go and get animal skin to cover themselves so that they appeared not to be circumcised. To make things worse Antiochus began to sacrificing pigs. This was very upsetting to Jews since pigs were thought to be unclean and it was against the kosher laws for Jews to even touch a pig and here the king is making a holy sacrifice using an unclean animal. Mattathias refused to conform and killed a Jew who had been Hellenized and an official of the royal court. Mattathias and his five sons and others fled the city. Mattathias is heroic since he went against the norm as a means to preserve the traditions that were holy in his culture.

I agree that if people feel that the forum is of importance to them they will come, but the issue once again is that when people hear the word forum they automatically think that it is going to be boring. I think that the display was a good way to get people to look at interesting information and hopefully they got something out of it. Hopefully the next forum that I put on will be more interesting and draw more people. Thanks for your comments.

I did find that when the display was put up it caught people’s attention and although I thought more people would have responded by picking up the handouts but it was just refreshing to see them at least look at some of the information. One thing that I have learned is that even if people don’t look at the information that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t put the information out there because you will never know who the information will touch.

After hearing about how common bacteria is in households period yet along in the dorms I thought that it was very important for people to hear about the various things that could be living in their rooms. I do feel that the speaker gave very good information that was very useful and I think that the message was received better by their being someone besides myself speaking about the dangerous bacteria that were living in people’s living areas. Since my project is about prevention the forum was exactly the type of thing that I was trying to do and it feels good to give people information about topics that they did not know much about.

Yes I agree that public heath does need a lot of attention and I was surprised that with all of the movements that are currently going on people still are left out in the dark on very common issues. I was not able to give someone from Oschner to come out and speak due to time conflicts but I am planning to put on another forum in its place and I think that it will be on an interesting topic so I look forward to see the outcome of the event.
