Lately i have been working and cut back on visiting TYC, which is teaching young children at St. Peter Claver. I haven’t stop helping with the program called Arms of Compassion which is like a salvation army. We helped a church get started over the past few weeks. We donated chairs, an organ, instruments, and a few microphone stands. Helping with poverty and trying to make a difference really feels good to have people appreciate your work instead of them acting like you owe them something. Also working with the young children makes you feel good at the end of the day. I worked with third graders and my main two students were Brandon and Corey. They thought that i was the coolest person in the world because i had a cell phone and had a car. Brandon told me that he wanted to be like me when he grew up. That made my day and insprired me to stay on the right track and continue helping out with them. i do not just work with theose wo boys, i work with a whole fourth grade class.
Those children are really smart also, the only thing is that they have attitudes and are really sassy. But in today’s world where children are raising children that’s what is expected. Also the laws that are being made now where you can’t touch the child or that is child abuse, growing up my parents corrected me when i was wrong and when i was right they rewarded me. But I know that when I was small I would test them to see how far I could go. I appreciate everything that they have done for me, and I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for them taking care of me and correcting me i wouldn’t be what i am today.
I have been working on getting my friends to also help out with TYC (teaching young children). When everybody helps out things run a lot smoothier and more efficient. Also teamwork makes the dreamwork. With helping out at Arms of Compassion things have been going really well. We have stopped accepting clothes because we have too many, so now we are accepting mainly can goods, and a few clothes but we have been asking that the clothes are limited and not trash bags full. I believe that with the help of people that have the right mind to help and don’t help just to say that they did something, but want to out of the goodness of their heart, one city at a time people will be being taken care of and no one should have to sleep on the streets and not have a change of clothes.
The only problem that I hate is people always take advantage of a good thing. People that really need help with groceries, and can’t afford to buy clothes have limited means of getting what is needed because of others that take the food and clothes and are not trying to make a living or support themselves, they are just living off the system. A society that sustaines people that just takes advantage of support systems is not helping a better area it is just supplying a bad habit. It’s like giving a drunkard twenty dollars everyday. You are basically supporting their habit. At Arms of Compassion we not only supply the community with things that they need we also try and minister to them as we nourish the people. After every person comes in to our bulding we pray for them and give them a Bible. Prayer does change things and even if they don’t become a member of the church prayer does change things.
A good king is someone that follows God’s Word and does as he is instructed even if the people don’t like it, God comes first. God was supposed to be Israel’s King but they wanted a king that they could see so God allowed them to have one. Their first king was Saul who didn’t follow God’s word he did what he wanted and God’s annointing left him. I see George Bush as a modern day Saul. George Bush knows esactly what he has planned and the country has no say. The people that we are to be attacking for nuclear weapons we don’t because they don’t have anything to give us. The country of Iraq has oil that America wants. He seems more like a Saul because when Saul was at war with the Amorites God said destroy everything, even the little children and all their possessions. But Saul kept what he thought was good. Pres. Bush has the mindset of Saul which is get rich no matter what it costs. I know that he doesn’t trust God in his decisions because if he did he wouldn’t have cheated to get into office. Someone that trusts God and Believes in God would’t lie to be in power, what is yours is yours, you should’t have to be deceptive. I think the the Deuteronomistic historians wouldn’t approve of Pres. Bush and reject him as they did Saul.
David’s worst sin was Killing Uriah, the Hittite. Uriah was at war and didn’t want to come home until the war was won and victory was Israel’s. David had a problem with lust and slept with Uriah’s wife Bathshebba. Bathshebba got pregnant and David wanted it to seem like the Baby was for Uriah. So he called Uriah from the battlefield to sleep with his wife, Uriah was loyal to his country and refused to sleep with his wife. So David had him killed. David paid for his sin by God not allowing the baby to live. David was a good king but as every person commited sins before God.
My project relates to biblical prophets in that they tried to instruct the people to do right in the sight of God and if they stayed on the right track with God they would be blessed. Being blessed is in turn being rich and wanting nothing. I am trying to cut out poverty with education, while the prophets wanted to cut out poverty with pleasing God. God took care of His people and they prospered when they were in God’s will. God has a plan for this world and knows all things, but while I am here I will try to make it a better place for everyone like the Prophets.

Jamie, I like the fact that you work with youth. A lot of people today act like they are too busy or just dont want to work with children. I think that is a major part of why children are getting out of control. People say that they dont know how to behave and try to act too grown, but if no one older takes the time to show them responsibility and try to be a good role model, what would you expect. I’m happy that you are trying to get others to help as well. I know that sometimes its hard to get people to volunteer, especially if its early in the morning or on a weekend, because people tend to be selfish. I wish you luck with your project and hope you continue to volunteer in the future.

I’m glad that you are working with the youth. I’m sure you felt great when the little boy told you he wanted to be like you. As good as you felt I’m sure having you in his life is probably ten times greater for him. I commend you its hard to be a good role model! AWESOME!

Working with children is a very rewarding experience. Thats great that your organization was able to be of such help in starting a church. Do you plan on volunteering with the Arms of Compassion over the summer or even next school year?
