My project has made more progress with the students, their have been studying long division, spelling, science, and the bible since it is a catholic school. They are studying about how you should treat others as you want to be treated. They feel that long division is the hardest thing in the world. It kind of funny because when your in the class you always feel like it is the hardest thing that you ever had to do until you are finished, sort of like these bloggs, it feels like I will never get to number 15, but I have to keep going and once I’m finished I’ll look back and feel like I could of done this better and faster than i did. The students remind me of myself so much with their mindset on school. It used to feel like school was so hard, now I wish I could go back to long division, and spelling, in middle school I had it really easy i just didn’t know how easy it was. My favorite student to work with is Brandon. The only thing that i worry about with brandon is that it seems like when he goes home his mentors or people that shows him things a ten year old shouldn’t be looking or hearing about. Other than that i enjoy being around him, he be making jokes that really be funny, Corey is more quiet unless you mess with him, he is more of the studious type that is shy but sneaky, i always laugh at him when he tries and steal a drink of soda when the head teacher not lookin. I enjoy my wednesdays and mondays they give me something to look forward to at the end of the day. With the arms of compassion we are still accepting food items because people come in for those everyday. Clothes are still not a huge need.

i believe that Jesus was counter cultural because of his purpose and what his main message was. People thought that the messiah would come and take over and destroy the Roman empire and bring back the Monarch like in David’s time. Jesus’s ministry was a spiritual message, every time he spoke about his kingdom it wasn’t for earth but for heaven. Also his taget crowd was not the scholars, or the rich. He went to those that were outcast. Jesus knew the hearts of the people and he knew that the Pharisees were hypocrites and that the scholars thought they were smarter than He was. That is the reason for so many parables. It was to throw off those that considered themselves smart, but Jesus said if you would humble yourself as a little child then you would be able to understand. This was said not because little children believe anything you tell them, but because they have a mind to learn and to recieve, instead of fuss and make confusion. Also Jesus taught that youshould turn the other cheek instead of fighting back. In the older days it was an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Forgivness! That was what Jesus wanted, but the people didn’t see him as the Messiah because he didn’t deliver them out of the rule of the Romans. Instead Jesus said that they should pay what belongs to Ceasar. According to Jesus we shouldn’t be worried about how we live on earth because life is only a vapor that is visible for a short time and then fades. What is more important is what we do while we are down here. The bible says that if you love your life then you will lose it, but if you lose your life for Christ sake then you will have eternal life. Jesus also taught that we shouldn’t put all our hope into material things, but to look toward heavenly treasures because where they are so may we be also. Meaning that we cannot take anything with us once we die. This doesn’t mean that He wanted us to be poor, because all the diamonds and gold belongs to Him. The reason that Jesus told the young rich man to sell all his possessions and follow Him was because Jesus knew where the mans heart was. If you put God first in everything you do He has no choice but to bless you, as He did Job. But Job knw that the Lord blesses and He takes away, I’m still going to serve God through the good and bad. That was Job’s attitude, some people go to church for blessings. They want to get as much from God as they can but when its time to give God some time or tithes and offering its the church trying to get rich off your little two hundred dollars. That was why Jesus blessed according to the need. Our house, car, children, money, all has to stay here on earth, but if we work to get heavenly treasures then we can enjoy those in the after life. Remember Jesus ministry was about the spiritual life not the physical.
I kind of feel that my project is a little counter cultural because I’m trying to help those that Jesus would help the poor and the little children. Also I think that I am on the right track because yeah I started out working for a grade but now I know that this is more important than an A or B. Its about helping others that are in need. If Jesus helped those that were considered outcast like New Orleans then that is what I will do. The whole city of New Orleans has a reputation of being dirty and a place of crime. Even during the hurricane we were considered refugees in our own country instead fo evacuees. As I said before life shouldn’t be about how much money you make but how many lives you touch along the journey called life.
