Week 5: My Logo

liennguyen –Baton Rouge is about an hour away from New Orleans, but that’s where I am from and I go back every weekend so I’m used to it. I am going to let everyone in the office (it’s a pretty small office) know why I’m there and exactly what I am trying to do. I hope that they will all realize that my project is a good idea and that it is an issue that really needs to be addressed. I know there are many people taking advantage of Medicaid who do not meet the requirements, but I will make sure when doing screenings that I pay very close attention to salary and things like that.

lcoop – I am sure that there will be some people who I approve who actually are lying and really do not have an extensive need for Medicaid as do those in poverty. However, all I am really trying to accomplish is to get more people who are in poverty a better chance at getting Medicaid.

miz_krista87 – Thank you for your good luck wishes. I hope many people do benefit from this because if they do not, then my project will be a failure. I also will make sure to try to get the workers who I will be working with to continue on my efforts and maybe even spread the word around. Because I am going to be volunteering in Baton Rouge, I am only going to be volunteering on Fridays from 1:00 P.M – 5:00 P.M.

KJ – I am aware of all of the people who cannot afford medicine for their illnesses, which is why I chose to do this project. No one should have to suffer from a treatable illness because they do not have the monetary funds. I am not really going to be working with Medicare, which is for the elderly, because I am just targeting those in poverty. But hopefully I can help as many people as I can.

Julian Jordan – I am definitely excited about working in a hospital setting since I do plan to maybe do so in my future. I will be volunteering every Friday from 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. Thanks for your good luck wishes.

desmyth – Thanks, and I had a really hard time finding a project that would somehow relate to my major. My mother recommended this to me and I ran with it. I hope that I will help a lot of people because that is definitely my goal. Moreover, it would be really great if I could leave a lasting impact and have the people who actually work in the office work towards the same goal as me.

sisaacs - I am from Baton Rouge and I come home every weekend, so I am just going to go down to Baton Rouge right after my last class on Fridays and I am going to volunteer at the hospital from 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.

brittneycurtis – Poverty is a really big problem and I do feel like it cannot be solved over night which is why I chose one aspect of it to be able to help as many as possible in poverty. Thanks for your wishes.

The patriarchs and matriarchs are good role models. Of course, because they were human just like us, they were not perfect. However, I do believe that they were followers of God and in that sense alone, they were good role models to us. If God did not think that they would be good role models for us, I do not think he would have chosen them to be patriarchs and matriarchs. I also believe that they are good role models because they give us something to aspire to be. We all want to be chosen by God to be one of his special children. The patriarchs and matriarchs consist of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel/Leah.
My favorite commandment from the Decalogue is the fifth one, which states, “Honor your father and mother.” This is my favorite commandment because we, as children, need to honor our parents. If it were not for our parents, we would not be here today. Of course, just like the patriarchs and matriarchs, no parents are perfect. They will make mistakes, just as their children will. We need to accept their imperfections and honor them still. I know firsthand that parents can be bothersome, aggravating, annoying, and probably anything else you could think of, but that gives us no reason to ignore the fact that they are our parents and God want us to honor them. It is not as if we should be jealous because they seem special because just as we are honoring them, they have parents they honor too, and we may someday have kids who will honor us also. Parents want the best for their kids. Sometimes what they think is best may not necessarily agree with what you think is best, but we should still honor their opinions. You can never get too old to honor your parents because they will always be your parents, whether you like it or not. I feel like many children forget what their parents are to them and that they need to honor and respect them, so this is my favorite commandment. I feel like people, including myself, need to be reminded of this one especially on a daily basis.
The Decalogue fits into the context of ancient Near Eastern Suzerain-Vassal treaties by including each characteristic of it. First, it contains historical prologue that identifies God and lists accomplishments: “I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt…”. Secondly, it has a prime stipulation that we shall have no other gods before him. Third, it has subsequent stipulations telling us what we must do, which one can find in commandments two through ten. Fourth, it has provisions for treaty, which is to put it into the Ark of the Covenant. Lastly, it contains curses and blessings, which one can find at the end of Deuteronomy.
