What are some similarities and differences between Genesis and the Enuma Elish? What is the Tiglath-Pileser principle?
Similarities between Genesis and Enuma Elish kinda obvious but some are elusive. The correlation between the number of day in Genesis and the number of tablets or generations in Enuma Elish is glaring similarity. On the sixth day in Genesis, man was created. And on the sixth tablet, man was created to appease the labor complains of the gods of Enuma Elish. Also the earth was created out of nothing in both stories but water and space. The firmament is in both also. In Enuma Elish, the top clam half of Tiamat becomes the firmament or sky. Both also ended on the seventh day/tablet. Some people think Genesis derived its framework from the other creation story and I agree. One thing I like about Genesis is that it is much shorter! But Enuma Elish is more creative and interesting.
Now about the Tilgath-Pileser Priniciple.
