Genesis and Enuma Elish have some similarities. For starters they both are creation stories. Other similarities include the idea of humans being made out of dirt, the number 7 as the divine number, and the idea of Yahweh killing Primeval dragons. All of these relate to Genesis’ creation story. Genesis creation story has more order to it. Day 1 was the creation of light. Day 2 was the creation of the firmament. Day 3 was the creation of dry land and vegetation. Day 4 was the creation of luminaries. Day 5 was the creation of fish and birds. Day 6 was the creation of humans and animals. And Day 7 is the day for the Sabbath. The reason that creation stories were created is cure curiosity. They also validate and present social and political order. Enuma Elish is the Babylonian Creation story created about 1750 B.C.E. It is written on seven tablets. Each tablet representing a day that it took for God to create the world. Enuma Elish is Akkadian. When translated it means “when on high”. A special tradition for the Enuma Elish is its festival. There’s a festival that takes place called Akitu. For the New Year they have a celebration for 11 days and on the 4th day, the Enuma Elish is read and reenacted.
Tiglath Plieser was the king of Assyria. His name, in Hebrew, means my trust. He told of many conquests that were pretty exaggerated. Like the one where he supposed killed a sea horse. So I guess that the Tiglath Plieser principle would mean the over exaggeration of deeds and conquests to boost one’s image of self. Sort of like what rappers do to sell cd’s. I think the reason why Tiglath did this was invoke fear from his people of future enemies. I’m sure it helped him play the part of king as well.

Hey Ja’Meisha…this has nothing to do with the blog, I just could figure out how to just email you. So anyway, Kristen and I were wondering if you were going to participate in the Bible Mystery on Thursday. You can email me back at jmcinto1@xula.edu. Thanks!
