Dear Senator Landrieu,
My name is Susan Isaacs and I am currently a Junior at Xavier University in New Orleans. I am writing you in concern for our education system and how it has a direct correlation to poverty, which is a major problem in this city.
As senator I feel you should be the one to take this problem to Washington and find a solution. Our education system is not doing the job, in that they are not properly educating our youth and making higher education an option. The lack of graduating seniors, and those that go on to seek degrees are lower then the countries average. This problem is passed down from generation to generation. Parents that have not received a proper education and did not graduate, are less likely to encourage their children to graduate and advance on to higher education. Instead they relate to the streets and find a lifestyle there.
I am a very strong promoter of tutoring, and currently tutor at Xavier University’s Homework Clinic, helping kids from all around the city of New Orleans and find great rewards in it. I feel tutoring will improve our cities poverty rate, graduation rate, and crime rate. This simple act of teaching improves many aspects in a young child’s life. The most important aspect of tutoring that I feel tutoring does is it gives young children a positive role model to look up to, and makes college seem attainable.
Thank you,
Susan Isaacs

As President of this institute I feel you should be the one to help encourage higher education, through tutoring. Our education system is not doing the job, in that they are not properly educating our youth and making higher education an option. The lack of graduating seniors, and those that go on to seek degrees are lower then the countries average. This problem is passed down from generation to generation.
