Subject: Raise Teachers, Police Officers and Firefighters Pay!

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Alayne Lawrence. I am a student at Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. For my Introduction to Biblical Studies class, we were tasked to do a project that could ultimately result in changing the world. We were first asked to decide what we thought were three biggest problems we see facing the world today. I immediately thought of nothing other than; money. Money is a very big problem and is the main cause of so many complications in the world today. I also thought that crime and education were also really big problems. After deciding that I thought to myself, what was one way that I can solve all three of these problems and ultimately change the world?

I thought to myself, that the best way to do that is to start off by coming up with a solution for everyone to receive money, which is the basis of all problems in America and the world today.

In order to do so I am going to start with the people that have the biggest impact on today’s society. For my project I am trying to raise the pay of the people that I think are most important to our society. I am referring to the teachers, firefighters and police officers. To me everyone is suffering as a result of these occupations not receiving a reasonable pay. These people are very important. We as a society could not function well without them at all. These are the people that teach us, protect us and are there for us whenever there is an emergency situation.
I think that if were to get these people a reasonable pay, then we could ultimately eliminate the money problem we have and also crime. I say, crime because by getting teachers better pay is also encouraging teachers to have more pride in their job. And when teachers have more pride, they are encouraging more students to actually want to come to class, and when they are more students in class, we are eliminating crime and encouraging more people to go to school. And by getting more people in school more people are entering into successful careers and making money. Ultimately, eliminating financial worries and allowing for educating and encouraging people to be better human beings and contributing positively to society.

The first stage of my multi-stage program for these important people to obtain a higher salary is to raise the money to support this higher pay. I propose getting the wealthy members of our nation to donate a certain percentage of their income to a national fund.

I would like to start by developing a nation wide salary fund for teachers, police officers and firefighters through the federal government by getting the wealthy contribute money to the fund by receiving a to-good-to-refuse tax break from the government for doing so. To me this is a win- win situation for the government, the wealthy and our society.
I have already begun getting a petition signed with a list of names, that agree in saying that all individuals that earn over a million dollars a year should contribute to this TLF (Teacher\ Law Enforcement\Firefighter) fund and by doing so receive a tax break (exact amount to be determined) in an effort to get all nation wide TLF members an annual salary of one hundred thousand dollars a year minimum.

I feel this goal is attainable if we could just get all the wealthy to sit down and think about whom they are and how they got to where they are. I believe they will all remember at least one teacher, police officer or fireman that helped them at some point in their lives and with the federal government throwing in the tax break, how could they refuse?
I therefore ask you to please support me and my project to raise teachers, police officers, and firefighters pay at least to a reasonable amount, so that they will be encouraged to actually continue wanting to do their job to the best of their ability. My project is critically important for the future of America, and I think that if we actually get this in place that we can better America and ultimately the world.
Thank you in advance for your participation.
Sincerely,

Alayne Lawrence

I thought that Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama were the best people to send these letters to because the future is really in their hands. I think that one of these two people really have a chance at becoming the next president. And even if one of them doesn’t become the next president, I still feel as though they can make a difference before anybody else, because of their huge impact on America. I also sent my letter to Mary Landrieu, because I felt that it may take a long time for Hilary Clinton or Barack Obama to receive the letters and Mary Landrieu could possibly respond back more quickly.

African American Criticisms is important to bible scholars. The question that has always been addressed in religion is, was Jesus black or white? No one really knows the answer. But the question should be does it really matter. In an article we had to read for class the main subject was Cleopatra black or white because people were starting to draw and make statues of her with the look of more a black woman. Any many people questioned that. The truth about the whole situation is that during the times of the bible race didn’t matter to anyone. Race is an artificial concept made up after the times of bible. Race is basically just cultural baggage that we as Americans put on people. In the times of the bible and such, it didn’t matter what color you were, it matter where you were on the social structure.
