My Katrina Story

400 words by atravis1

Katrina was a mess!!! I never expected her to destroy lives the way she did, and neither did anyone else. Just like most residents of New Orleans I packed at the last minute because was I expecting to come home within two or three days. But just like everyone else my dreams were shattered because little did I know Katrina had other plans. She may have brought water into my home, did a little roof damage, and kept me from my home, friends, and family, but she never kept me from coming back to the city that never sleeps. As far as this class is concerned I think it will be interesting. I have been raised in the church my whole life because my grandfather is a preacher, and so is a long list of uncles. I don’t know everything about the Bible because I’m not a Bible scholar, but I’m hoping that I can learn things I don’t know and have never covered in all my years on earth. I love God and his son Jesus and I truly do believe that this class can help me have a closer relationship with them both. I am truly indeed a sinner and I’m not perfect so I slack off sometimes. Maybe taking this course could help me stay true to God. I hope throughout this semester that I can grow in both knowledge and in faith. I’ve always had this crazy dream that when I grow up I wanted to work with crazy people and now I’m in school taking courses on the brain and disorders. It’s kind of strange because people always say it takes a crazy person to know one, but I’m really not crazy. I’m actually quite sane and anyone can see that. Psychology in my opinion has nothing to do with Biblical Studies but who knows, maybe something I learn in this class can help me with my future goals in becoming a clinical psychologist. Even if it doesn’t can still use my knowledge to educate others who where just like me. 586 BCE was close to home for the people of New Orleans. As a city we to were hit with destruction and now as a result we as a city face psychological problems.
