Week 9

The implementation of my project is proceeding good. I got off to slow start but I was able to pick up the pace and move along. My project discusses Global Warming and how it affects the world. I am still trying to find more information on how global warming affects our economy. My project was to educate people about some of the effects of global warming especially the citizens of New Orleans. I’m also watching the weather and seeing how it’s changing. The fall season has started but we are still having summer temperatures. These climate changes can be caused by Global Warming and the greenhouse effect.
The greenhouse effect is a necessary phenomenon that keeps all the Earth’s heat from escaping to the outer atmosphere. Without the natural greenhouse effect it is certain that life on Earth would be difficult to sustain. In 1988, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was created by the United Nations Environment Programmed (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to assess the scientific knowledge on global warming. The IPCC concluded in 1990 that there was broad international consensus that climate change was human-induced according to globalissues.org. The Droughts and fires that are affecting the world are warning signs that changes need to be made for future use of our planet. All of these different disasters are could be tied into global warming. It’s said that by the time a baby born today is 80 years old, the world will be 6 and a half degrees warmer than it is now. I even started discussing some facts about global warming with my parents. My father and I were outside doing some yard work when our leaf blower broke. The engine died out and it couldn’t be fixed. So my father decided to go to the store and buy another one but he wasn’t sure which style to get. Our old leaf blower was gas powered and studies show that gas powered cause a small amount of global warming. Compared with gas powered leaf blower electric blowers are quieter, less polluting and involve less hassle. So after we talked about it and I showed him some of the advantages of an electric leaf blower and he still wasn’t sure then we compared the prices and that won him over. So he decided instead of getting another gas powered leaf blower he should get the newer safer electric brand because it causes less pollution and it’s cheaper and it doesn’t add on to Global Warming Pollution. I am also trying to make some brochurs to hand out so if I can’t talk to someone they can read the information inside the brochurs.
What makes a good king according to the Deuteronomistic Historian?
The Deuteronomistic History is based on the book of Deuteronomy which presents itself as the final address of Moses to the people of Israel. The Deuteronomistic History is a single work giving the story of Israel as a people from its conquest of the land to its expulsion from the land through exile, spanning the books of Joshua - Judges - Samuel - Kings. Deuteronomistic Historian, describes a good king as a leader who trusts in the power of God and follows the laws of the Torah. The book of Deuteronomy is often described as the Deuteronomic History of the Kings of Israel and Judah because of the prominence attached to the Deuteronomic law of the Central Sanctuary.
Would the Deuteronomistic Historian approve of George W. Bush? Why or why not? Deuteronomistic Historians would probably not consider George Bush a good king. Deuternomistic History describes a good king as a leader. George Bush may be the leader of the country but many citizens do not consider him to be one of the great president. From the time George Bush has been in office he has been criticized for every little thing he has done. From the war on terrorism to the rising prices of gas he just hasn’t done a great job running the United States.
What is the worst thing that David did?
One day while the men were at war, David spied a beautiful woman, Bathsheba, from his rooftop. He discovered that she was married to Uriah the Hittite, but this did not stop him from sending for her and getting her pregnant. He then called Uriah from battle and pretended that Uriah was the father of Bathsheba’s baby. Uriah refused to go home to his wife, so David sent Uriah to the front lines of battle, where he was killed. After Uriah is killed in battle David marries Bathsheba. David was then confronted by Natan the prophet and he confessed his sins. David’s punishment for his sin was Bathsheba’s child died and David was cursed with the promise of a rebellion from within his own house.
Describe the Jerusalem Temple.
What is the history of the first and second temples?
The Jerusalem Temple or Holy Temple as it was also known as was located on the Temple Mount in the old city of Jerusalem. It is believed the first temple was probably constructed in 10th century BCE. The temple of Solomon was constructed by King David with specific plans given to him by God. David though he was supposed to construct the temple but God told David that his son would be the one to assemble the first temple. The temple was built entirely according to patterns from Egyptian temples. The Temple of Solomon was divided into four zones, all lying on the same axis. Outside the building, and under open sky, was the altar for fire sacrifices. The whole structure is believed to have been seventy meters long, and the width about thirty meters. The temple was also designed to hold the Ark of Covenant. The Temple was considered a holy place where any person could pray.
The second temple was believed to have been constructed after Cyrus permitted the exiles to return to Jerusalem. This event happened between 514 and 535 BCE as it says the Second Temple was constructed around that time. It was referred to as the Temple of Zorobabel. The second Temple was built on the same site as the first. The most important room in the second temple was the room known as the Holy of Holies. It was a room that contained no furniture. The room housed the two tablets of the Ten Commandments. The Temple of Zorobabel was sixty cubits shorter than the Temple of Solomon. But because the Temple of Zorobabel lacked Ark of the Covenant and the rest of the holy artifacts the like the Temple of Solomon it was not considered as great as the first temple.

I feel more informed just reading your summary. I think people should know how their choices are affecting the planet. The concept of Global Warming is still very abstract for most people. Most of us won’t be alive in 80 years and 6 degrees doesn’t seem to be a high number. Can you help people see why those 6 degrees are important to us today? Also I would suggest keeping your brochure brief and direct. There is a lot of unimportant paraphernalia being circulated. You would not want your brochure to be put into the same category. Keep up the good work.

I never really understood what global warming meant but your summary is very informative. I must admit i know very little about this topic but i am assuming that 6 degrees is a big difference, it was a startling statistic. I think the brochure idea is good and possibly elaborating on some terms would help to because i know if i am lost plenty other people are confused as well.

I never really was to interested in global warming but your project seems quite interesting. brochure are a good idea but what is going to make people want to read them

Your blog is very informative and I feel that Global Warming is a very serious issue that many people don’t take seriously. But I’m just trying to find out what are you doing besides making changes within your family to better society on the issue of global warming?

Global warming is a very serious issue. I’m glad that this project has warned some of the other students about its dangers. Making the change from gas to electric is a good start, but not enough to get people aware. Maybe if you were to have a showing of Al Gore’s movie “An Inconvenient Truth” then that will make people aware. He won a Nobel peace prize for it recently. It is boring, but it gets the point across.

Karl, I really think that your project is interesting simply because it is a lot of people who are not aware of global warming and its effects of our Earth. Your educating them will soon make a difference because people will be more aware of the problem and hopefully that the initiative to try and stop it. Good luck on your project!

Global warming is a problem that everyone in this world contributes to. Although we hear about global warming all the time, many people do not seem to truly understand the problem and the extent of its harmful effects. I think it’s great that you have chosen this topic to help others understand more about this growing problem. Be sure that in your brochure you make it relatively easy to understand and brief. To many the idea seems boring, but it is a problem that we all need to recognize. Also, it would be nice if you could include advice on alternative options similar to the advice you gave your father about the leaf blower. If people do not understand the problem, they could at least take your advice and attempt to prevent global warming from becoming out of control. Good luck.

Making informative brochures about the effects of global warming is a good idea. What other interesting facts do you know about the effects of global warming? How can we help? Are there any people who oppose the idea of fighting global warming?

Your project sounds like a good one. Global warming and other environmental problems must not be ignored. By enlightening people about the causes and effects of these issues, we can protect mother earth. Yes I have been noticing the crazy weather. I wish it would make up its mind what season it wants to be! It is good that you took your project to the most personal level by including your family. Your father made the better decision financially and environmentally, because of you. Hopefully you can find more interesting info on your subject. Try to reach as many people as you can. Good luck.

That’s what global warming mean. I have heard it so many time & kind of have an idea of it, but not a clear one. So, your project seems interesting & very informative at the same time. You’re convincing huh. Who will you be convicing next & what method will you be using next time?

I knew how much the greenhouse affected our future, but I didn’t really understand the impact that it was making towards our life in the near future. I think that informing people on this subject is interesting because a lot of people really don’t know that much about the subject. I think that if enough people started to take this matter more seriously, we could really accomplish a lot more and maybe come up with a good way to preserve our future. I think that it is great that you got your father to switch to using the electric blower. This is our future and every little thing we do could ultimately lead to a better future for our generation and the generation after us. Could you also please comment my project, thank you.

I really love this project. Every project I did in high school was about Glabal Warming. I think it’s fascinating. This is a serious problem. If something doesn’t change, We will be at fault for our decline. If you are interested you should lresearch CFC’s and their effect on the ozone molecules and the atmoshpere. Good Luck.

This is a good issue but what exactly are you doing about it? You have told us all about the issue but how is your work coming along? Are people perceptive to this information you are presenting them with? Do people really care? What can we really do about this issue? You have a tough project. My advice for you is to be really sincere when speaking about it so people can see that it really matters to you and they may attempt to listen…lets face it most people don’t care about global warming although it is a very important issue…but the society we live in today has its priorities mixed up.

Your project seems to be very well thought out. I must admit that I know practically nothing about global warning, but you summary made the subject clearer. It also made the subject a little more interesting to me, at first I found global warming so boring, but now I can deal with it. The brochure sounds like a wonderful way to inform others on the subject. My only suggestion is that the brochures look catchy and colorful to draw people in. Because I’m sure that the majority of the people out there are just like me. They are uninformed and they don’t really find the subject interesting, so you have to make them want to hear the information. The project sounds good so far! So keep up the good work.

I am also concerned with the issue of global warming and am pursuing a career in hopes to change the effect of global warming. A brochure is a great way to spread the word about global warming and how we as consumers can help to our part in fighting the effects of global warming.

I was always alarmed by global warming, about the ozone layer, and about the greenhouse effect although I did not know much about it. Your blog has been very informative in telling me exactly what it is and what exactly we can do. Keep up the good work with your project!!
