week 6

The progress on my project has been a little slow. It’s moving slow mostly because of me. I’m finding it hard to find some time to work on the project with my other classes. The other reason is because I didn’t think it would be this hard to start some kind of donation thing going for my church. It’s hard to start it at my church, so I haven’t even tried to get the other churches to do it yet. Another problem is that I was going to interview a homeless person for my project, but the homeless person I was planning on interviewing disappeared on me. This won’t cause me much of a backup because there are a lot more to interview instead of that one person. Now I’m thinking if I should either interview a homeless person that stays in the French quarter, downtown, or just a local one in my neighborhood. I think there are advantages and disadvantages to interviewing certain homeless people. For example, if I interviewed a downtown person, the thing I want to know mostly is where do they find shelter to sleep at on the street? Food shouldn’t be much of a problem because they might eat out of the dumpster from restaurants or something. Unlike a homeless person who lives around restaurants, how is a homeless person who lives on the streets of a community suppose to eat? I’m not sure about other communities, but my community doesn’t have much dumpsters. The dumpsters that we do have are more for objects than food. Would the homeless people sneak in a person’s backyard to find food in their garbage can or wait for garbage day and dig through it in the front? The advantage of interviewing a homeless person that lives downtown is that I can find out how or where they use the bathroom when there aren’t much public bathrooms down there. I know there are some public bathrooms that are basically open twenty-four hours. Food should also be abundant in the French Quarter because the businesses down there are based mostly off of restaurants. I’m still planning on making the interview a video interview. This problem of picking which homeless person to interview is just one of my little problems that I can’t decide on. The church is willing to help out with the donations and such, but my problem lies mostly with the community. The community I live in is small and most of the people who live here haven’t found decent jobs yet and some are still rebuilding their homes. It’s hard for them to donate things when they themselves don’t have much to live on and they have to support their significant other or kids.

How does this class pertain to what I want to do as a professional living? My ultimate goal is to either be a pharmacist or a business type man. I can see this class helping me out if I go for business because I can see things in a different way instead of one narrow idea. In class, we learn to look at passages to see if we can find a hidden meaning in them or see if the translation for it is correct or not and see, by comparison of two, which one is the more accurate passage. I can apply this same method to business because I need to think and see offers from other people in different ways. I can also look at two deals and decide which one is more accurate in their description and which one is more beneficial. Typing a report and such wouldn’t be too hard because we already type a load of mess every week in this class. This only thing is that I can’t see this pertaining to pharmacy in any kind of way. It could be that I am not thinking hard enough. The only thing I can think of is that it’s giving me some religious views on how things work back then and that I could apply it to everyday things now. The only wrong part about this is that you don’t need any religious views when you sell and distribute medicine. It doesn’t matter what ethnicity or color they are. If they need some medicine and they got the money, then the medicine is theirs.

Feminist criticism is to justify control over women. Women in the past have been subjected to being servants of men. To understand why women would submit or defy this phenomenon is called feminist criticism. This criticism shows us that this has been around for many years. Women in biblical times have been subordinate for the most part, but not all agreed to be the slaves of men. Some women defied the idea and created a new path for the next generation of women. Over the years women showed that they do not need anyone else’s strength to support them. Feminist criticism is a useful tool because it allows us a chance to understand the things that led up to why women were subordinate to men or what made them defy men. An example of women defying men would be of a story with a woman named Judith got a general drunk and chopped off his head while he was sleeping. This just shows that she needed no one’s help in doing this deed.

How did I do on the midterm? I was kind of disappointed at myself on how well I did. I know I could’ve done so much better if I had planned out my time wisely. The funny thing is that everything I missed on the midterm could only be found online and not in the bible or the dummies book. I could’ve looked it up on my internet, but it broke on me the day before the test. I could’ve been wise and studied earlier, but I’m a procrastinator. The test wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. The hardest part for me was the whole map thing. I couldn’t figure out the map behind the bible. The map was hard to understand. The only thing I can do now is to do a whole lot better for the final.
