I would like to thank everyone who commented on my project blog. All of you left very interesting comments. It seems that a lot of you agree that creating a website is a good idea. Since today’s generation spends most of its time on the internet, information regarding sexually transmitted diseases would travel relatively fast. A lot of people also agree that kids today hear a lot of false information about sex from their friends. This is why so many kids are misinformed about STDs.
From the comments, I also find that many people would agree that most young people tend to be a bit naive when it come to sexually transmitted diseases. Most youngsters are given information(or at least hear about STDs) but believe that they will never catch a disease. Most don’t even bother to get tested. I agree that a doctor would be able to give solid statistical fact about this particular subject. But I seriously doubt I would be able to find one who has the time to accompany me to a high school class. Lol!!!
I will seriously consider making a group on Facebook that promotes abstinence. maybe that will open some people’s eyes to the dangers that are involved in sex. But I must admit, I am not very confident people will join. I know of too many people who are sexually active and are not interested in abstaining from sex. I’m pretty sure(or at least hope) most of them at least practice safe sex. But sometimes……people just do stupid things. NOBODY’S PERFECT!!!!!!
I will definitely go to different high schools and talk to high school students. I’ll start at my old high school, Eleanor Mcmain, then I will see where it goes from there. I really think high school students are the ones who need the most educating. I recently heard of a high school sophomore who is currently pregnant. I couldn’t believe it when I heard it. I have already visited some of the classrooms of my old teachers(at least the ones who are still there, lol) and they have agreed that I should talk to there classes. Me being a former member of the marching band, I asked the current band director could I talk to the band also. He graciously agreed.
As for the biblical patriarchs, it is a “what and what” situation as to whether they are good role models or not. Some things they did where good, and some things they did were not so good. For example, Abraham. Abraham was a good role model in the sense that he completely trusted God(in most things). But even he didn’t always do the most honorable thing. When God tells him that he and his wife, Sarah, will have a son, he is skeptical at first, but decides to trust God. But seein that no son has come over a long period of time, he decides to take his wife’s maid, Hagar, as his concubine and sleeps with her. Of course Hagar soon gives birth to a son, Ishmael. In the end, Abraham ends up sending Ishmael, along with his mother away. Sounds like a very loving father, lol. But Abraham does show that he completely trusts in the Lord. No matter what he must do, he never turns away from God and always keeps his face. Even when God tells him to sacrifice his son Isaac, he reluctantly agrees to do it. Luckily this was just a test for Abraham.
Among all of the patriarchs, Jacob is the least that can be called a good role model. He constantly deceives people. he deceives his own father and brother at the same time. He makes his father, Isaac, believe he is Esau, his older brother, in order to receive Esau’s blessing. he also deceives his uncle Laban, although this is bacause Laban deceives him first. In addition, Jacob’s mother, Rebekah, isn’t a good role model. For some reason, she favors Jacob over Esau. So she helps Jacob deceive Isaac and Esau.
These acts of deception spread to Jacob’s wives also. His first wife Leah conspires with her father, Laban to trick Jacob into marrying her before her sister Rachel. On the day Jacob is to marry Rachel, Laban gets him drunk so that he does not know he is marrying Leah instead. In this way, Laban is able to trick Jacob into working for him for an additional seven years. Rachel and Leah don’t are not good examples of role models either. Throughout their lives, they are rivals. They each try to bear the most children. Rachel, who is believed to be barren, asks Jacob to have sex with her maidservant. Leah, although she has many children, allows this also. Even Jacob’s sons are bad role models. Because of their jealousy for their brother Joseph, they decide to try and kill him. But thanks to the eldest brother Reuben, they decide to lighten up and sell him into slavery. Despite this horrible act, this is not all they do. Reuben manages to have sex with one of Jacob’s concubines. If this isn’t the ultimate disrespect of a parent, I don’t know what is, lol.
As far as the commandments go, I don’t really have a favorite. But if i had to choose, my favorite would be “Honor your father and your mother.” This is my favorite because it is one that applies to people forever. As children, we are a reflection of how our parents raised us. Our behavior for the rest of our lives is a reflection of our upbringing. On the other hand, another commandment I would choose is “You shall not steal.” I have seen too many people break this commandment. Even when a person steals the things that seem the smallest, it is still stealing. I myself have stolen in situations where stealing doesn’t seem that big of a deal. Me being a stock clerk at a grocery store, its kind of hard not to do that, lol.
