Week 9

My project has been progressing slowly but surely. I have selected the five middle schools that I want to choose students from and they are Thurgood Marshall, Livingston Middle School, Singleton Middle School, Samuel Green Charter Middle and New Orleans Free School. I plan to meet with the principals of the schools after the Thanksgiving break, I have too much going on to go before then. I want to basically speak with the principal about my program and how it could benefit students who exhibit the desire to pursue a higher education after high school but is not familiar with the process and how to construct a concrete plan. I am creating a presentation, complete with a poster that I am currently working on. I want to convey how strongly I feel about reaching the youth through this seminar. Once I have the okay to speak with a few teachers and ask that they recommend students who would qualify to participate in the program. If they allow me to speak to some of the classes I wouldn’t decline because it would give me an opportunity to interact with them directly and inform them of the benefits of informing themselves and preparing mentally for the transition to college. In my experience with children of a younger generation sometimes they receive information better from people that are closer to their own age. For example, a parent can preach something to their child until they are blue in the face and they ignore the parent’s advice; but if a friend says the same thing the reaction tends to differ.
Five of my friends agreed to volunteer on their Saturdays to assist in my project. The volunteers would just provide assistance, advice, and guidance on what the teen should expect in the upcoming years. It would also allow them to have some personal attention from someone who is in college and can give insight on dos and donts that they may have experienced. Valencia Hawkins, a librarian, is helping me to try to get funding to take the children to the African American Museum as one of their outings, hoping to expand their knowledge beyond television if they haven’t already been exposed to cultural activities. Ms. Hawkins has a tutoring program that she does at the library and also recommended some of the kids that she tutors for my program. She has been very helpful an informative to me through this process. She is experienced because she plans these type of events all the time at the library, which is how I came to know her. When I was young I spent all of my time there and she would always suggest books that I read so that I could enhance my reading skills. She is also a graduate of Xavier University so she is even more enthralled that she could help me with my project. The project so far has taught me a lot about myself and others.
I haven’t officially started my project but the more I talk about it to people the more ideas I have so once I do select the students the rest of the plan will already be mapped out. The planning of this program causes me to realize how passionate I am about making a difference and impacting someone’s life in a positive way. There is not definite answer what the outcome of all of this will be but I know it has changed me and my limitations. i always talk about how I want to change the world but we don’t realize how possible it really is. Although it seems far-fetched and it sounds nice to say if you have a plan and put it into action you can cause a change and influence others positively. All it takes is one person to lead and others are sure to follow. In a few years once the kids that have participated in this program reach college, I hope they remember the seminar and try to help someone else like it helped them.
The Dueternomistic Historian describes the king as someone who follows every law of God, has wisdom, and spreads the religion of God. The king is not only a political leader but a religious leader as well. The king must conduct himself as a role model for the people that he intends to govern and convert to Christianity. The king must have complete devotion to God and not stray from his teachings. This seems like a hard burden to bear, how hard it must be to be perfect according to God. I do not think that the Dueternomistic Historian would approve of George W. Bush because most of his primary focus is finances and the Dueternomistic Historian requires that your first priority be God. He is not at all fit to be king, there are an infinite number of reasons. George Bush does not make decisions that come from God, his decisions do not consider the people in which he rules. Take the war for instance.
The worst thing that David did was that he slept with Bathsheba, who was married. She became pregnant and David didn’t want anyone to know that she was pregnant by him so he sent for he husband Uriah. Uriah came home early from war but he didn’t sleep with his wife. King David had him killed while he was delivering a message to Joab.
The Jerusalem Temple stood on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. It is said to be the footstool of God’s presence. Solomon had built in seven years the First temple around 957 BCE. It had replaced the Tabernacle that Moses had built and became the main focus of the Jewish faith. The Babylonians destroyed the First temple in 586 BCE. Seventy years later, Cyrus the Great decided to rebuild it in 516 BCE. Herod rebuilt it. Eventually, the Romans destroyed the temple in 70 CE. The temple itself has been ruined but the outer walls still stand.

The project plan looks like a good one. I hope everything works out. Having a mentor who has done it all is a great addition to the team. Kids most times just need someone to show them how, and it seems these days that most are just lost trying to find their way. Best wishes and good look in your project’s success.

You are not the only whose project is going slow because mine is going slow as well. Keep perservering until the end because your project plan seems like it would be a great project to work on if you were to complete it. I wish you the best!!

Good luck with your project! Mine is similar to your. I didn’t have the patience to initiate a program I just joined one and it has been beneficial to not just the students, but myself as well. Mentoring programs are so important in the academic and social development of a child and I commend you for trying to influence the next generation in a positive manner. Although your project hasn’t started, don’t get discouraged. In a way it’s a good thing because, the more planning and perfecting you do to its curriculum will ensure success among the students (mentees) who are involved. I hope everything works out as planned and you program is a success!

Your project and plan seems to be a good solid one. You basically got the whole thing planned out. You just need to find the time to put it into action. I know that when I was a senior, an old student came back to the school after experiencing college and told us all about it. I found it to be really helpful because the student just graduated like I was going to and I figured that I would pretty much experience the same thing this person did when I get to college. I find that doing this for the seniors in high school is more beneficial than doing it to the lower levels just because it matters to the seniors more, so they’ll give you all their attention versus a freshman who wouldn’t graduate in a while and wouldn’t care just yet. I wish you the best of luck!

You project is a good one. You have it planned out well. Once you start, I hope everything works out for the best of you. I hope that you weren’t discouraged because you project had not started. From my own exprience, I got discouraged because of my project and had to find a new way to implement it. But once again, I hope everything works out for you and your program.

Don’t feel down that your project was going slow. I’m sure it picked up some pace since then, lol. It is a very good idea and I’m more than sure it will work out. You seem to have everything planned out well and I believe this is a very good idea. If you can, I would appreciate if you would comment on my project. Thank you, and good luck.

Thank you very much to everyone that commented on my project. Your feedback really helps and also helps me to keep the faith when I feel like my project is never going to get out of the starting gate.

Your project sounds really good. Kids really need mentors these days. It’s great that you want to help them! If you plan on continuing this project, please let me know. I’d love to help out.

Your project is a noble and daring cause. A project that has the potential to effect and influence young lives should definitely go slowly and be carried out cautiously. Although the task of trying to get through to these young adults is probably going to be the most daunting task of the project going through with it is something that I think is necessary. Even if you only get through to one person it will be a great accomplishment. Good luck and good job.

This is great. I think you have a great plan you just have to put it into action. I wish my high school had a program like this I college would be so much easier if I would of experienced a program like the one you are trying to implement. Good luck.
