Why do most Christians in history believe that the world will end in their lifetimes?
Many Christians though out history have believed and still do believe that the world will end during their lifetimes, because of the things they read or have read in the Book of Revelation. The Book of Revelation is the last book in the Bible. The book of Revelations describe and talks about how there will be leading events that would lead toward the end of the world. It also talks about how there will be various disasters, famine, and death all over the earth. The writings of these horrific events made Christians really suspicious and suppositious that the world is going to end during their lifetime. An example of this is, like how right now many people are witnessing many natural disasters that are happening through out the world like earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and tornados. Also, now days there are many diseases that are spread through out the world that are causing many deaths likes small pox, AIDS ect. . As time goes on, the total number of people that die everyday increases. They die mostly because of natural disasters or famine and disease. As more and more bad things happen in each lifetime, these bad things would make more and more Christians believe that the world is going to end soon. At one point in time every one though that the world was going to end when the year 2000 came. People ran around grabbing all the emergency supplies like batteries, and flashlight, and stocking up on fresh water. Everyone on the eve of 2000 was sitting in church and praying as midnight approached. In my opinion I believe that the world is not going to end soon. And if it does it will only be, because of man doing and not Gods.
Blog about the Bible movie we watched in class.
The movie we watched in class was the story of prophet Jeremiah. The movie tells the account Jeremiah’s life as he grew from a boy to a man inspired by God to profess his teachings and warnings to the people of Judah. At just the young age of 10 Jeremiah began to hear the voice of God instructing him to do and say certain things. Jeremiah knew immediately that it was the voice of God speaking to him, but was reluctant to obey because he was fearful of the possibility if responsibility. As Jeremiah grew spiritually he continued to hear the voice of God but louder until he finally responded to him at his first sacrifice on the steps of the temple. Jeremiah began to profess the word of God just before he began to conduct the sacrifice of the lamb. Jeremiah’s prophetic words caused his father embarrassment and he was banished from the land of Judah. He was not only leaving behind his family he was also leaving his future wife Judith. God continually pressed upon Jeremiah to return to Judah and warn them of the Babylonian would take over if they did not change. As Jeremiah continued away from Judah he asked God for a sign and a helper. He less than a day later a scribe came looking for him. The scribe was the only other person who understood that God himself was speaking through Jeremiah. With the companionship of his scribe Jeremiah returned to Judah to deliver God’s warning to the citizens. The town chose not to listen to Jeremiah’s words and just as he had warned the Babylonians soon took over the land of Judah.
I did not expect the movie to be as interesting as it turned out. It was very good and held my attention the entire time. There was a few differences between the actual biblical account of Jeremiah and the movie we saw in class. We determined earlier in the semester as a story is continually retold certain aspects are added each time, but facts are rarely taken away. The Jeremiah movie is another great example of this. In the bible it is never mentioned that Jeremiah had a girlfriend or fiancé. Judith was added to the video to enhance the drama and emotion involved in Jeremiah’s banishment from Judah. Another aspect of the video that was added to the biblical account of Jeremiah’s life was that Jeremiah would have never performed a lamb sacrifice because he was a mosaic priest who did not believe in sacrifices. The additions of these two extra-biblical events were designed to hold the audiences attention. Modern box office hits usually always have elements of sex, drama, and violence, so these elements had to be incorporated to keep up with the types of movies people enjoy watching today.
Blog your thoughts on what your overall grade for your blog entries and your project should be and why.
I believe that my overall grade for the blog entries as well as the project to improve the world should be an A. I have gone above the requirements and duties of the assignment to make the world I live in a better place. Even though I am saying an A I am expecting to receive a B because I know that I have a few writing problems. The other reason why I think I will get a B is because I made sure that each of my blogs had at least 1000 words some time no more. I was barely making it. Honestly, 1000 words are a lot to type and think of and try to say. I put forth so much work for every blog entry so that I can come up with 1000 words. I believe my writings are decent enough to say that I did my readings and understood the lectures and discussion topics for this class. I am hoping that I at least get an A for my blog entries and my project because it can really help my grade for this class.
