Blog 14

1258 words by Eboni Kaglear

Most Christians in history believe that the world will end in their lifetimes because they know God must be disappointed with all the sin that is in the world. God tells us exactly what he expects of us so that we can someday dwell in His kingdom. He wants to see us there, but some Christians still do as they please, whether is it pleasing to God or not. Another reason is the book of Revelation, which is the last book found in the Bible. In this book, Jesus says, “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End” (Revelation 22:12-13). Because Jesus says that he is coming soon, but does not give an exact date, many people believe He is coming during their lifetimes because there is much sin present.

The Bible movie we watched in class was about Jeremiah. At the beginning of the movie, Jeremiah’s father convinces him to make a sacrifice so that he can offer his praises up to a false god. As Jeremiah is making his sacrifice in front of a crowd of people, God begins speaking through him. Jeremiah is confused about what is happening and he goes into some mountains and talks to God. God tells him that he is a prophet, but Jeremiah does not want to be. God tells Jeremiah he can not get married or have kids and he is very upset because he has a female friend who he really cares about.

Jeremiah tells the king of Israel to surrender to Babylon because God is working through Babylon to destroy the city and all of the evil going on in the city. However the king does not listen to him. Jeremiah tells his friend that his words have fallen on deaf ears and hardened hearts. So his friend starts prophesying and the king decides to free all of Israel from slavery. After the king makes his decision, one of his men tells him that Jeremiah is working for Babylon, not prophesying for God.

When Babylon attacks, the Israelite army fights back. The king comes and asks Jeremiah to speak to him of God’s will. Jeremiah tells the king if he wants answers, he needs to turn to God himself. General Shefan does not believe anything that Jeremiah is prophesying and he tells the king that he must die. Another prophet comes and tells the king that if Jeremiah dies, the wrath of God will fall upon them. Because the king has Judah praising false gods, Jeremiah tells him “You have not attended to them [the people of Judah], so God will attend to you for your evil”. The king pleads with Jeremiah to save him and Jeremiah tells him God will save him if he surrenders to Babylon. The king does not want to live as a slave as Jeremiah tells him he will, but Jeremiah says he already is a slave because he follows the orders of those under him, such as General Shefan.

Babylon has the city under siege and General Shefan tells the king that the walls have been breached and they must flee. Babylon catches the king and his people and they surround them, so they have no choice but to surrender. Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, sentences the king of Judah to death. He kills the king’s sons in front of him and tells him that this is the last thing he will see alive. Then he has his people burn the king’s eyes out. Nebuchadnezzar commands his army to set Jeremiah free. After Jeremiah is set free he says, “temple shall be rebuilt, and next time is shall be rebuilt in the hearts of man”.

I definitely believe that my overall blog grade should be an A. Thank God the blogs being prompt is not a part of the criteria for receiving an A. When I first began writing the blogs, I was overwhelmed with writing 1000 words every week. Also, it was due every Saturday night so that made it even harder to do it during the weekend. I had completely forgotten to write the second blog and I did not remember until two hours before it was due. I knew that there was no way I was going to be able to finish it. So I turned it in about an hour or so late and I asked Dr. Homan what are the consequences for being late. When he told me that the Saturday at midnight deadline was a false deadline and it was only there to keep us on track, it went downhill from there. I kept putting off the blogs, but I knew that I was eventually going to write them. And I did.

I am certain that my blogs meet the criteria required to earn an A. I am sure most students in the class would agree that my project did considerably improve the world. My fellow classmates who commented on my blog were grateful that I was trying to help people receive Medicaid because they themselves could relate. My project is very unique and most people would not think of helping people qualify for Medicaid. The reason I chose to implement this project is because I wanted to target people who are living in poverty and I know that this problem is way too big for me to target on my own. So I figured it would be best to just break it down into a smaller aspect and improve the world by doing so, and I am sure that I reached my goal.

Although my blogs were late, I made sure that my writing was not rushed. I made sure that my writing was of good quality. I also did research my project a lot which actually fueled my fire to want to really improve the world through my project because I never really knew much about Medicaid. I attended every class to make sure I learned everything so that I could effectively show my knowledge in the blogs. When writing about my project, I was able to clearly get across exactly what I was doing and what I was trying to accomplish. I thought very critically about every blog because it is never really easy to write one thousand words. So I would always have to go into more depth on the subject so that I could meet and exceed the required one thousand words.

While it was very challenging for me to blog one thousand words for each blog, I somehow managed to do so and more each week. It may not have been much more, but it was more nonetheless. After reading and reflecting on Xavier’s mission, I am confident that I did display it throughout my writing and my project. I certainly assumed a role of service in society by helping those in need of Medicaid. I was a leader by starting the project on my own. I learned a lot about Medicaid and poverty that I did not know before. My project did lead to a more just and humane society by me spreading the word of what I was trying to accomplish and it helped others to be more compassionate to those who are in need of assistance, whether it be financial or medical.
