The bibilical prophets, like myself, were trying to help their people. Constantly the prophets in the Bible warned Israel about their evil ways and told them to turn to God. The Children of Israel constantly turned aways from God, despite the many miracles they saw and no matter how often they were warned. In the same way, I see more and more people everyday are getting infected with sexually transmitted diseases. This is due to unprotected sex. Just like the biblical prophets, I see people acting foolishly and have decided to warn them. Israel suffered many punishments due to their lack of listening to the prophets. The worst was their exile in 586 B.C. Of course people will not be exiled because they are infected with a sexually transmitted disease, but they people take the chance of killing themselves when not practicing safe sex. In the Bible, refusing to serve God is the same as this. The same thing that most people do today, is the exact same thing The Children of Israel were doing in their time. They were trying to please themselves. People today are doing the same thing. Sometimes people do not always make the wise decision, so thats why other people have to warn them. Which is what I and the biblical prophets were doing.
I think Job’s experience is very similar to the rebuilding of New Orleans. At first, with Job, everything was perfectly fine. He had a good life, and everything was going smoothly with him. Then one day, Satan came before God and God asked him had he considered his servant Job and that there was none on earth like him. The devil says that of course Job fears God because of all of the good things that the Lord has given him. He argues that if all of these good things were taken away, Job would decide to curse God to his face. As a result, God decides to test this argument. But he warns Satan not to touch Job himself. So after this, everything is basically taken away from Job overnight. His children are killed, his wealth is gone, etc, etc…. But despite all of the bad things that have happened to Job, he refuses to curse God and praises him even for the bad things that have happened. He says “Should we only expect good from God and not bad?” After this, God and Satan have the same conversation. This time, Satan argues that if Job’s good health was taken away, he will curse God. God allows him to touch Job’s health, but not his life. Afterwards, Job becomes very ill. Still, he refuses to curse God. Later, God rewards him by restoring all the things that he lost. In the same way, New Orleans is like this. Everything was basically fine in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina. At least as fine as could be expected, lol!!! When the hurricane hit, it really messed up the city. Even more than it was in the first place. But even though the city of New Orleans has a long way to go, it is still recovering, even though its recovering slowly. But some progress is better than none right??? As with Job, before his situation got better, it got worst. After the hurricane, some things seem to have gotten worse with the city of New Orleans. For example, the crime rates practically skyrocketed. Also, some people still have not received there money from “The Road Home” program. Some people are still trying to come back to the city but cannot. That is one thing that really sucks. Hopefully most of the things that are wrong with the city will get better. Until then, i guess all we can do is have faith and pray.
Psalm 22 seems to speak about Jesus. In the gospels, Jesus says the verse, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” This passage in Psalms refers to Jesus’ crucifixion. It tells how Jesus cried out to God but got no answer from him. It also describes how the people mocked him and made shame of him. It also tells how they cast lots for his clothing. The authors of the gospels put this in their writings to show that Jesus did these things.
