I would like to thank everyone for commenting on my project. I know that you all are very busy and I greatly appreciate your input.
Xumed2010: Thank you for acknowledging my efforts and recognizing that all children need is guidance. It is always easier the second time if you have someone who has already experienced what they will face in the future should they choose this path. I hope that I can be a resource to them and also make them aware of all of the other resources that are out there that they may not know about.
Kirstin Coleman: Who are you telling? I definitely needed a little encouragement in the progress department so your comment made a huge difference in my attitude and my approach. I have been crazy busy with so much other work, just like everybody else I am sure, but I refuse to give up on my project and none of us should. Dr. Homan is trying to get us to step outside of our comfort zone and attempt to achieve something that looks like it is just a walk in the part. Thanks for the comment. Good luck with yours.
Samantha Hicks: Sometimes I wish I had just joined a program instead of trying to start a new one, but I can honestly say that I have learned a lot. Who knew it was this much work? I thought I could approach people, tell them my ideas and they would love it immediately. Seriously though, it is worth it and I am sure I will feel even better once it finally starts. I expected to be finished with this project by now, but they didn’t have a date available at my chosen venue until January. Although the class will be over by then I am still going to complete the project because it has become personal and not just class based. I genuinely want to make a difference, obviously if I will still be working on it after my grade has been turned in.” Mentoring programs are so important in the academic and social development of a child and I commend you for trying to influence the next generation in a positive manner.” This statement is very true concerning the many who need someone to take time to educate them beyond school matters.
Peter Pham: Thank you for commenting on my project. I am so into the planning aspect of my project because I want to make sure that I have covered all of the bases before launching the ship. The planning spectrum is so complicated, I had to go through a lot before I got to where I am because I really care about the outcome; I also realized the knowledge that could be gained if I put effort into it. If I sell myself short and settle for anything, then the true potential of this project will not be realized. Also, you sharing your experience with me added fuel to my fire, it reignited a hope that was fizzling out. That was basically what I needed to know, that a life had been changed before on a personal level from someone who passed the knowledge down to you. I understand what you were saying about teaching it to seniors but I don’t want that to be my sole focus I want to raise appreciation for school as a whole. If I wait until they are seniors then it will almost be too late if they didn’t take it serious enough to earn grades that could guarantee them a free ride to college. You feel me?
Kelly Davis: I am over being discouraged and ready to get this thing started. I know that everything happens for a reason. If things didn’t go as smoothly as planned it was designed to help me grow in some particular way, I had to learn how to improvise. This project taught me about myself and my capabilities, it may take work but anything really is possible. Anything worth having is worth working for. I am thankful to Dr. Homan for making us do this because it exhibited many qualities I did not know I possessed.
Jedward: Thank you for your comment. I am confident that my project will have a positive outcome. I believe that I put a lot of energy and I devoted as much time as I could, the only thing left to do is pray and hope for the best.
Textual criticism studies the text of the Bible. It is considered to be the “lower criticism.” Textual criticism deals with the removal of errors from texts and manuscripts. Textual criticism tries to determine the original text of the document. Historians look at the way that the sentences were structured. Early textual critics were concerned with preserving the works of antiquity. If the text had been simplified then it was deemed not to be the original text, and if the sentence seemed more difficult than the other it was considered to be the original text.
Source criticism is synonymous with literary criticism. It is an attempt to identify the source used by the author. the idea that Biblical text comes from different places from and come from different time eras. It is considered to be the “higher criticism” of the two. Different books of the Bible, although they it may name one person who authored it, when in fact it was authored by several people over a period of time. This can be seen with the 4 Gospels of the Bible. Although they are basically talking about the same thing, Jesus’ life and death, they are written in various time periods. The difference between the two is that textual criticism is interested in discovering what the original text was. Source criticism is more concerned with where authors got their sources from and how they came to formulate the conclusions they had.
Maccabees is described as a Jewish man who started a liberation movement and won independence from Antiochus IV Epiphanes. When the temple was destroyed in Jerusalem, it was Maccabees and his soldiers that rebuilt it.
