I would like to thank everyone for their many comments and outrageous amounts of support. I know I sound like something from off of a low budget movie but I truly appreciate each and every comment, suggestion, and positive input. My younger brother and sister play a major part in my project. Without them my project would not have been a reality. They helped me much more than I thought. They gave me feedback, helped recruit the children for my project and gave me inside tips on likes and dislikes about their friends. They also were so understanding and nice to let me borrow their friends for my project. It was tedious, nerve wrecking and very stressful at times but they helped me pull through. It was even better when they sat in on a discussion or two with me. It was great. They are the best. Not to leave out my fellow peers who commented and encouraged me to go on with my project. Thank you all for taking time out to comment and give your real unbiased opinions.
However I still feel like there’s more to do. There’s always more to do and I want to do as much as I can. I want to expand my idea but I’m not sure how it will be received. When I say expand I mean that I want to talk to kids of all ages and races. No kid should be neglected or left out. I feel like I’m limiting myself and feel like I’m being selfish and unfair to other boys and girls who need guidance. All people, no matter what color, go through problems and deal with peer pressure and growing pains that being an adolescent brings. I want to make it comfortable for them to ask questions and not feel stupid for wanting to know the answers. We all have been in a classroom and asked the teacher a question only to have other students snickering behind our back. I don’t want them to be ashamed to ask questions.
I want to let the other’s know that we may look different and come from different backgrounds but we are all one. Being narrow minded is a disease and I don’t want to be looked at in that way. Judgmental people are also a pet peeve of mine and on a bad day I would not and would have if someone considered me this way. People who judge others spend so much time pointing out the flaws of others that they have no time to correct their own. Besides talking to and befriending people of other ethnicities is a good thing. It makes you well rounded and very conscious of what you are saying. Some people simply say anything because they can’t or don’t want to control the impulses of their own mouth. That is sad when a person’s ignorance has completely invaded and taken them. I have a friend like this who says the most stupid things imaginable and thinks it is cute when it really is disgusting. The more I try to get her to understand and listen to herself, the more ignorant she becomes. I think she does it on purpose because she knows it gets on my last nerve.
Textual criticism is based solely on the texts of the bible. Another term for it is called lower criticism. Textual criticism removes errors from old texts and pieces of manuscript and just about anything else with writing, mainly biblical though. The criticism part comes from the original document. What historians first do is look at the structure of the sentences to see if they are correct. Antiquity played a part in this as well. It was to be preserved. If the text was simplified it was considered unauthentic or not original. It was considered original text if the sentences were hard.
Source criticism is the idea that biblical text comes from different places and time periods. This can be found in the four gospels. They all talk about the same thing but are written in different time eras. A good way to discover if a source is original or not is to go through it and see if it is short and complicated.
The story of Tobit,a grave digger, was a man who was exiled by a king. He had attempted to bury all the Jews that he had killed. After his exile and the death of the king he returned to the city of Nineveh. When he does this, he runs into a bunch over misfortune and becomes blind from bird droppings. When this happens he wishes that his life was over because of his disability. Other unfortunate events follow him. He owes someone money. He sends his son Tobias to pay off the debt. God sends an angel named Raphael that begins traveling with him. They then meet a woman named Sarah. She is just as if not more depressed then Tobit. Her depression comes from the death of all her husbands. A demon keeps killing them. The angel tells him that he should kill a fish and take its bladder because it has a special purpose later. It will cure his father’s blindness making his vision come back. Tobias and Raphael stay at Sarah’s house when they reach Media. Tobias finds happiness and comfort in Sarah and they fall in love and get married. She once was like his father, hopeless and miserable. They go back to his father and use the organs from the fish. It works and he can now see again. The demon never did get a chance to kill Tobias because Raphael captured it. The basic overall message from Tobit is to never give up. No matter how bad things are looking, there’s always hope to rely on and faith to trust in.
Maccabees are heroes. They were led by Judah who is a Maccabee as well. They are heroes because they revolted against Antiochus. They just wanted independence for all Jews.
