Blog exactly what you have done to improve the world regarding your project. This blog does not involve future plans, but actual things you have done this semester to implement your project. Post at least one more picture about your project. Why was Jesus crucified?
Well when I first started out thinking about what I wanted my project to be about I wanted to think of a project that I could do over a long period of time, something that affects the world, but also something that deals with our age group. One of the problems that that I thought that we faced today is alcohol abuse and drunk driving. So for my project since the semester started, I have been trying to work with the different dorms across this campus to talk to the students about alcohol abuse and drunk driving. The purpose of my project was to make people aware of the growing rate of college students who are experiencing alcohol abuse problems as well as tackle the issue of drunk driving by making pledge cards in the dormitories for students who agreed that what they were doing was not safe and by making alcohol surveys so that I could gage what problems the students already had.
I have seen both of these issues firsthand from experience with my family, as well as seeing my friends that have gone through the same issues. I chose to do this topic because I wanted to improve the world and make a difference at school, where I could see some actual change. During high school, I saw many people that I knew get hurt in accidents to the point where I thought that they did not value there lives anymore. I wanted to do something about it in high school, but at the time I just thought that I was too young and that nobody would listen to what I had to say. My family has had a few drunks in this lifetime who have had trouble in getting over alcohol as well. Some people in my family have even lost jobs and their families because of their alcohol addictions. In college it seemed like this problem with drinking has exacerbated. People are drinking heavier than ever and most of they do not realize what their are doing to their bodies. Some people drink just to be drinking, while other people I learned, actually have a problem. When I could not get some of the dormitories to agree into putting my pledge cards up I tried to incorporate some type of survey that I could slip under people’s dorm doors if I needed to. I found out that this minor adjustment worked even better because people were more willing to answer the survey than they were willing to sign my pledge cards. From these surveys, I have found out that many people drink more when they are at a party with their friends and during other social events. From the surveys I have also learned that people who tend to over frink are mostly underage, and because they are underage they want to prove to other people that are legal that they can keep up with the rest of them. I have also learned that many people who overdrink, find themselves in comprimising situations where they could have sex with someone that they did not know, get in a fight with someone for a little reason or no reason at all, or find themselves doing other various drugs to keep up with the high that the alcohol has caused them.
Hopefully my project has helped improved some people’s lives, if not the world’s. I hope that from my project people realize that they have to do, in everything that they do, that they have to take it in a serious fashion. They must know that there are consequences for the actions that they take and that drinking something like alcohol is not a game and is in fact very serious. Maybe some people on campus will change their drinking habits because of my project and I hope that people have come to realize that they can change. I also beieve that people have learned from my project the bodily causes that it can cause as well as real statistics that have given them. Hopefully from this they have become more informed. I also hope that my project has informed the administration that they have to do something about this problem. From the past and even now Xavier’s administration has been reactive instead of being proactive. I hope that they have realized that we need some type of prevention in this area and although we are a Catholic university, we need to help people who might have a problem whether it is dealing with alcohol or about sex. Even more importantly I hope that doing these projects that students have done for for Theology have given the students the courage to actually try and change the world. With my project, although I know that with drinking alcohol, it is something that that person has to choose for themselves, but I do hope that with my project I have accomplished helping out somebody’s life.
Jesus’ crucifixion was the result of extreme hate and was seen as a threat to the powers at that time. Because he fought back resistance with nonviolence and the way that he taught people and uplifted the poor, he was challenging the political power structures of his day. He was sentenced to death by the Romans on the charge of political treason because he claimed to be the
“King of the Jews”. Although it is unknown to many with regard to the events surrounding Jesus’ death, we can all surmise that there was a deal struck between the Jewish leaders and the Roman authorities. Both had a stake in eliminating Jesus’ brand of religon. Many of the Jewish leaders had power and status to protect and the Romans were more concerned with law and order. But Jesus had a purpose as to why he had to put to death by crucifixion on the cross. God always had a plan for all sinners of the world to send his only begotten son to die on the cross. Jesus’ death was a fufillment of this eternal plan a preordained plan.
