Janice McIntosh Week 10

648 words by JanMcIntosh

1. Lauren Cooper: Addressing the problem of the lack of adequate healthcare in the world. volunteering at a health clinic that serves underprivileged people here in the New Orleans area.
So Ms Cooper I understand about all the problems that come with starting you project. It seems so over whelming at first. Like it’s too much for just one person to do. The process is so slow and that can get on your nerves. It got on mine! When I started my project I had to have all these meeting to get approval. Which I can get because they have to keep a close eye on what is going on with the young girls and young boys. Then waiting for permission was also aggravating for me. The best thing to do is be patient because it pays off in the end. Also being scared about being one person is so normal. Since your creating this project who would really know if you
“mess up”…no one. Go with the flow and everything will turn out just fine.

2. Brittney Curtis: Teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Was it just one party that you attended? How did you choose where to go and what audience you wanted to target? It took me a while to find out who exactly would best benefit from my project and who would be the best to start with. Once I found out my group it seems like everything else just feel right into place. Did you try on campus? There was this STD forum given by the Delta’s and it was shut down because they were giving out condoms. So be careful where and what you do.

3. Danielle E Wilson: Homelessness. Help people avoid reaching this state by educating adults and children on the resources available to them. Host seminars and workshops that will address financial planning for adults, career counseling for young adults and goal setting for everyone, in various churches. Ms Danielle when you gave out information, where did you get it from. Like did you consult realtors for facts and best strategies for people trying to own or rent? Also did you run into financial issues? When purchasing or copying papers? The place I was working with had really strict rules about EVERYTHING. Example: The girls put up their Christmas tree during one of our sessions but they only had enough lights to cover half the tree. Well according to the rules, I had to buy it then write it up as a donation. With all kinds of wordy paperwork and stuff that really didn’t make any sense. I was just wondering if you ran into any of them problems.

4. Denise Hancock: Tutoring in the homework clinic located on Xavier University’s campus in the dormitory, House of Studies. Program is geared for Kindergarten through eighth grade students. I’m glad that everything is going great with your tutoring. I’ve seen the students in the cafeteria and wondered where they came from. You haven’t posted about any difficulties and that’s great.

5. Samantha Hicks: Addressing is “the misuse of selfishness. High school economics class, writing letters to different local businesses to ask for funds that will ultimately be given to a family in need. Hopefully this effort will continue and we will be able to help many. I just was curious who is going to choose the family and how is there need determined. Like do they have to have an income lower than a certain amount? Was getting the project approved a hard task? When we wrote letters to others (week 8 I think) one of the places I choose was a school. It was a few schools that just were not interested and very not helpful. I was wondering how that process went for you.
