Coming up with my three biggest problems were very difficult. The world we live in today has so many problems that it seemed almost impossible. I’d bounced ideas around in my mind such as gas prices, the levee system of New Orleans, the public school system in southeastern Louisiana, government corruption, and global hunger and warfare. Although all these issues do deserve some kind of attention to turn the situations around, I knew that there is nothing I can do in such short amount of time to make and effective change.
The first official problem that I gave serious thought to was the media copyright infringements, which we all know of as bootlegging. Some people may think that there is nothing harmful to bootlegging and that no one gets hurts by it. I know because I used to think the same way. However, when it was brought to my attention that downloading the one song from the internet for free just cost T.I., Neyo, Ciara, and everyone else the profit of the entire album, I stopped. Just imagine the profit from the album multiplied by the millions of people who download. That adds up to a pretty penny that the artist worked hard for in the beginning. I figured the way I could help be a part of the solution to this problem would be to just turn in the names of all the people I know are doing this. But let’s face it, I don’t want to be a “rat” and I don’t have time to keep looking over my shoulder in fear of retaliation. The second problem of mine was abstinence/ safe sex/ abortion theme. I know that people will do what they want to do anyway regardless of what the consequences maybe. How could I help the situation? Pass out informative brochures that people will just put to the side until it’s too late? Or perhaps pass out condoms so that they can just leave them in their wallets or purses at the time when they need them most? Even if I did so, would I be bold enough to do a follow up and asking if people are continuing to practice safe sex? I am not yet that brave and I feel like it is not business because they are not my sex partner. Last but not least, my final true consideration is to help those on the community that are not up to par with their basic education skills. This is something that I can do when I am not busy trying to further my own. I feel that some people in the community do want to gain at the least a GED if they were not fortunate enough to graduate high school. They just need some support and people that are well beyond able to help in the particular area of their lack. Although it may not be a high school diploma, it’s more than they have now.
The plagiarism policy for this course (as well as any other) is well understood.
The Merneptah Stele is a stone slab engraved with a description of Merneptah’s military victories. At the top of the slab, there are drawings of what looks like Egyptian royalties. The slab speaks of Canaan being in woe, and of Israel being wasted and bare of seed.
I think we watched the Babe Ruth movie clips for faith and “he say she say” reasons. In one rendition of the movie the little boy was almost completely nonresponsive while he lay in his bed at his home. There was a very old antique type radio beside the bed that he would listen to the game from. Babe Ruth was contacted via telephone and the boy’s doctor talked to him. In the second version that we watched, was in a bed in the hospital. Although he still sick, he was also conscious and well aware of his surroundings. Instead of the old antique radio, the boy had a cassette walkman. Another difference was that his father was walking along with the rest of the citizens when he ran into Babe Ruth and begged him to go to the hospital to see his son. There was also a difference in the home runs he made. One version shows him getting just one while the other shows him getting two. In both cases, when Babe Ruth came through with his promise to make the particular home run, the boy miraculously gets “healed” as if the healing power was in the promise being fulfilled. There was also speculation of the home run being a “called” shot. Many people think that he truthfully called it while others think that he was pointing to the dugout. Different people interpret that particular “movement” differently. This may be the very reason why some people say that there is no such thing as “The Bible”. Just as people either misinterpret or have what they believe is the correct interpretation of Babe Ruth, this scenario also exist with “The Bible”. The fact that there are many different versions of “The Bible” (The King James, The New International, The New Living, The Children’s Bible, and many different study bible to name a few) does not really help the situation. As said in the words of my older brother, “they come out with a new version of “The Bible” every few minutes,” (jokingly of course). I personally believe that this is because everyone wants to have their own say so and tell the world how they perceive the past to have occurred. To make it even more difficult, they are trying to translate a translation that has been translated, and that translation may been translated from another translation and so on… I know you understand where I’m going with this. In essence, the original text is completely lost because everyone has to have the world understand from their particular point of view instead of letting the Holy Spirit (if there is such an entity-in reference to this discussion) reveal the divine meaning to every when they are ready to receive and understand it fully.
