My Project

77 words by mab8429

In week two, I addressed the 3 main issues I felt were facing society today such as crime rates in New Orleans, war in Iraq, and gas prices. For my project, I will particularly look at gas prices. If gas prices continue to rise, I will stop driving all together and boycott the gas stations. I will get as many people as I can to take on this challenge with me until gas prices are resolved.

Your project idea is very unique. The issue of gas prices and the economic state that our nation is in is a major problem. I am almost certain that gas prices are going to continue to rise so you just might have to carry out that project. If enough people get involved in the boycott you could eventually, possibly start a national boycott that could lead to the federal government getting involved, who knows. If enough people in our nation stop buying gases and began to take alternative options of transportation, the oil companies would begin to suffer and your small project would become something major.

Hello this is Ashley Simon from your theology class. I do agree with you in the fact that gas prices are out of control. However, I do fear that due to hurricanes and other natural disasters will cause gas prices to either stay high or go even higher, which will make you boycott the gas stations and stop driving all together. I just wanted to know what other forms of transportation will you use and also if gas prices will continue to rise or stay high over a long period of time, will you continue to boycott the gas stations? Also, I don’t know if it is true or not but I think there are other types of fuel you could use rather than just using gas from the gas stations. Maybe you could investigate other types of fuel and different ways of transportation to share with others.

Interesting… I think that it would be more of a true project if you got a group of your friends or a list of people who will agree to limit their use of gas week by week.

Also, a group presentation on the detriment of fuel dependency on our economy would also help.

Perhaps even using a critique of the war in Iraq, fuel dependency, and the Presidency as a spring board for a dialogue (if you may decide to have a presentation).

Gas prices have made me want to do this a time or two. I think it might get a little difficult after a while, you might miss the independence of going where you want when you want in a reasonable short amount of time. Making it to places on time would take a lot of planning ahead and effort. So far it looks like the gas prices are going down, I couldn’t imagine them getting too much higher, if they do I may have to join you in this endeavor, it’s getting expensive to live.

Ok I understand your feeling on gas 100% but you do to Xavier and majority of the students don’t drive, I would like to know how you are going to get you boycott out to people out side of Xavier, and can you give another option for people that want to join your cause.

I do agree with you that gas has been extremely high and your project is unique. The only thing that I am worried about is how you will get others to boycott with you in a city like New Orleans, where the weather is hot and no one wants to even wait on the bus. I wish you luck with your project and I and I am anxious to see how it will turn out. GOod Luck!

First, try to get the rest of week 3 and then week 4 (the comments) posted. Second, i would recommend adding an information gathering/sharing phase to this. Find out about why the gas prices are so high. Learn about oil speculation. Then find a way to inform others about it. After the Gulf War, I went three years without driving a car. I got tired of biking/walking, so now i ride a scooter.

I do agree with the fact that gas prices are out of control. I get a headache everytime I pull up to the gas station. However, how do you avoid using gas? In some form or fashion it will be used. In New Orleans, I think you will drive yourself crazy trying to get others to boycott because of the need to get around quickly. Maybe you could encourage people to use public transportation and park their cars. Neverthless I am extremely anxious to see how everything will turn out. Good Luck.

Wow. That was the first word that came to my mind. I am going to hop on the bandwagon a little and agree with those who commented. I would recommended researching why gas is so high b/c many people don’t know. I would try to get people to join in on your project and educate those who are driving around like gas is only $1.25 on how they can preserve.

I think that your idea is very unique and drastic, but one person alone cannot get the prices to drop. Also joining the bandowagon, you need to educate people on the increase in gas prices, and tell people the consequences to our environment by excessive driving. Influence many people by your actions, and this project will be very successful!
