Making it happen & being a woman…

I am currently working on poster and sign and getting them approved t be posted. I am aiming to get some participation from some of my colleagues. Okay…update, update! Alright, now that midterms are about over I can focus on other things, although I am still REPEAT STILL VERY STRES! MAN XAVIER REALLY KNOWS how to do it to you. LOL I am joking, but life circumstances can become a little overwhelming at times, as we all should know and probably experience often! Any who, my main goal for the project is students’ retention. I will rephrase my project so it is clear to all. My project is to reach out to the underclassman at Xavier (for example, freshmen and sophomores) in hopes that they will stay in school and not give up because it gets overwhelming. Therefore, the group would basically be a support group. My goal was to get a team of at least five fellow Xaverites whom are either Seniors or Juniors (I would include Pharmacy students as well if they have the time, however I know that there time in consume with a lot of studying so my focus was on the undergraduate sector of Xavier and not the Pharmacy School sector). Although, I do believe the if Xavier University of Louisiana Pharmacy school’s student participated, it would be good because they have been in school longer and was able to overcome stress and the overwhelming feeling. As I talked to other peers about participating in this program, I received feedback from them. The feedback was very positive. They admitted to the fact that they wish that someone could have been a mentor or big sister or big brother to them, it would have made there college experience a little more easier because of the support and the lessons that could be taught by the older schoolmate through there actions. It would also help because the big brother or big sister could act as a tutor as well. Some of the students I talk to even confessed that they either performed very poorly in a class or had to withdrawn from a class due to the lack of understanding and access to help; if there was an upperclassman to help guide and support them, the bad outcome more than likely would have been better.
Now I expected to learn more about the bible, its purpose, etc. while taking Theology. I should apply some of the things I may learn to my life. For this being Theology, I know that it is more that just discussing common/typical topics. I am very interested in the bible because its fascinating learning more about what you believe in. I probably would have not voluntarily took this class if it was not apart of the Xavier University of Louisiana’s graduation requirement, however, I am glad I get to have this experience. So far in this class, I am understanding some things a little more and learning other things that I didn’t know. For instance, I never heard of Patriarchs and Matriarchs in Sunday school. However, theology does not directly affect my career choices, but I must continue to believe in GOD in the any field I chose to work in. I am a business major. My specific major is business management, well according to Xavier it is business administration with the concentration in management. As a business major, I have many option on what field I can work in. My options are numerous; I might work in healthcare management, retail management, bank management, human resource management, etc.
Feminine criticism is a useful tool because it analyzes different works and shows how males were of course very dominate and controlled women and their actions. They were many women in the bible, but vey few that were significant. Some did not even possess a name (well we as a reader I was not told of their names) or they were referred to as their significant other’s wife. For example, Abraham wife is like the only woman mention with a name in his tale. Lot’s wife was referred to as Lot’s wife and that is it. The women in the bible have major roles but it is mostly pertained the men and what they have learned and what they have done. Most of the time women in the bible simply just played the role of giving birth. For instance, Ill use the birth of Jesus Christ, Mary played the role of giving birth to him BUT there was no real reason of why God chose her. There were no special traits or reasoning given in the bible to make her more qualified than the next lady that may have been a virgin. Feminists Criticism showed how women in the bible or in the bible’s time did not get much credit. The bible was written by majority men and only really uses he, him, or his, in reference to the human race, not citing women at all. I feel that for this being true, it reveals the dominant role men played back then and even today in a sense in some societies. In the Feminists Criticism article, it discuss some of the women in judges such as Jael, the mother and wife of Timinte, Delilhah, and of course the nameless women. As we were suggested in class by Dr. Homan it is thought men were in reality really scared for a woman to be in control, that is why violence was use to show the superiority of men over. For example, a woman was gang raped with the person going even far enough of mutilating her body in the book of Judges. I believe it was because when wanted to leave her husband. THAT IS LUDACRIS! And it DOES NOT give anyone the reason to commit such a crime but it was acceptable in this time. I did okay (hint, hint, very average) on the midterm; it is always room for improvement when the grade is NOT 100. lol, but I am grateful for the grade I got! Thank YOU LORD!
