week 11
textual critism and souce critisim do not really that big of a gap. textual criticism is the idea that deals with the interpertation of anicient text and manuiscripts to try and bringthem as close back to the original meaning as they can be. Shorter and harder to read text is perfered. source critisim deals with the idea of different type of text formation from manuscripts, being choosen for books like the Bible.
The story of Tobit is cool . Tobit is happily married with a wife and a kid. One day he falls asleep in the at his job in the graveyard and the birds doo doo in his eyes, blinding him. He wakes up wishinghe was dead. At the same time a lady by the name of Sarah that resides in Media wants to die as well because of her horrible luck with husbands. She’s been married seven times and every time it comes the night for good lovin , her husband is killed by a demon, Asmodeus. She has becomes miserable and hopeless. Therefore, God sends down the angel of healing, Raphael, to help answer Tobit and Sarah’s prayers. One day Tobit asks his son to travel to Media to collect money that is owed to him by a man. Tobias is accompanied by the man-form of Raphael . During their journey, Tobias is almost killed by a huge fish that jumps out of the water. Luckily Raphael and Tobias kill it, eat it, and save the fish heart, liver, and gall bladder for later uses. When they reach Media, Tobias and Raphael stay at Sarah’s house. While there Tobias and Sarah fall in love and marry. Sarah’s father who doesn’t have much confidence in Tobias surviving the first wedding night digs out a grave for Tobias in advance because he thinks that tobias is going to die. However, Raphael give Tobias advice to burn the fish heart and liver and the smoke it produces scares Asmodeus, the demon away to Egpyt Everyone becomes happy because Tobias survives the wedding night. They travel back to Tobias’ crib and return the debt money to Tobit. They also rub the fish gallbladder in Tobit’s eyes which allows him to see again. The story ends happily with Tobit rich and enabled to see his son happily married. Raphael comes out and reveals himself as an angel as well. it taught me a lesson to never lose faith no mater how bad thing seem because God will make a way if you keep your faith. the maccabees defended what they believed against this lil crazy dude named antiochus. he was defiling the hebrew temple by worshiping idol gods on their alter. so the maccabees fought back and took back what was rightfully theirs. and they lived happily ever after not relly but you get the piont.
Jesus was counter cultural because he was the opposite of what everyone expected. he came as a servant and everyone was expecting him to come in glory as a mighty king in all kinds of glory. he came and to them that it is better to be poor because it is hard for rich men to go to heaven. and becase they lived in a some what hellinistic culture that lifted up and glorified power; it caused them to think even less of Jesus. he came as the son of a carpenter and born in a manger. He called himself the king of the Jews but was a servant i think he threw everyone off. thats what caused him to be counter cultural and to be rejected.
i feel as if my project is very counter cultural many people believe that you have to do all kinds of things to make the world a beter place no everyone is going to be a ghandi or a martin luther king and there will never be another Jesus Christ. if we can all just learn to put God first and love one another the problems of the world probably wouldnt exist. or would they even doing your part to change the world wont ever make it perfect but a small spark in the mind of one person can change the lives of many. who know the world may just be a better place when you wake up in the morning…
well this week i have been workin hard to try and stay faithful to my project in spite of all of the other things that are going on. everthing from projects to essays to research papers to blogs… oh yea thats this class but any way my project may not seem like much but whos to judge i could try to stop crime racism and al types of other things but when you really think about it what is the cause of all of these problems the lack of respect for Gods laws and the misconception of love. many people dont know love so they dont know how to show love. think about it for some reason people dont think some things can be done because they didnt happen yet. but when you have faith all thing are possible through Christ who strengthens us. but every man is given a measure of faith and what you do with it will either help you grow or cause you to shrink like a deflating balloon.
jesus was crucified because people didnt believe when he said he was the christ. the called him a blasphemer and had him sentenced to death. even after all of the miricles he had done they still denied him and beat him. his own people were the one who wanted him killed. then they went to piliot and got exactally what they wanted. then again in a spiritual sense christ knew he was going to die and gave his life for the sins of men for as the first adam came and brought deth uon all mankind. the second adam came that we may have life and have it more abundantly.
