So far my project is going pretty well. I started out with talking to people in my subdivision and people from my church choir. I understand that those people who i chose to have meetings with are not minors, but I did this purposely. I aimed for these people because they all have children either at the age where there will be many influence approaching them or their children is reaching that age. Also, a few of them own their own businesses and I wanted to make sure that they are aware of the consequences of serving alcohol to minors. Now that I have gotten those people aware of this problem, I am moving on to my next step. I have just recently set up another meeting to talk about this issue. Actually, it’s not really a meeting, but rather I will be speaking to some minors at my church. I have a friend that teaches CCD at my church and his students are are the perfect target for my project. So I asked him if I can meet with them one weekend to talk to them about these problems and being a good friend he is, he agreed to let me speak with them during his next class. From there we made an appointment for May 2nd to meet so I can explain the importance of minors and not drinking. I am really excited about the fact that I will be able to actually get in front of these kids and educate them about this issue. I am hoping that once I talk to these kids they will pass the word to their friends and they will think twice about the consequences when someone offers them a drink. In this meeting I will start off with telling them my experiences when I was younger. Then I will start talking about if I were to have another chance to do things over again, I will definitely do it and I will approach things differently than I did. After telling my past experiences, I will tell them about the effects of alcohol on their brains and such. They may think it’s cool to drink now but trust me later on they would not think otherwise.
How was Jesus countercultural? Jesus was countercultural in a way that around his time women were thought of differently than they are today. Back in the days, woman had no power what so ever. They were pretty much under the mans power. Their responsibilities were basically cooking, cleaning, reproduction and staying home to take care of the kids. In Jesus’ eyes, we women were slightly different. According to the bible, when Jesus saw a woman crippled he stopped his little meeting to help her and healed her, showing that he treated women equal to men. This action here was definitely counter cultural.
Is my project counter cultural? My project is definitely not counter cultural. My project is to try and stop under age drinking or at least reduce it by educating people the severity and the consequences of underage drinking. Our society is against underage and my project is to stop it or reduce it, therefore my project is not counter cultural. If I were to be fighting for underage drinking then my project would be considered counter cultural.
