What do you know about Others?

In this weeks blog, we were suppossed to show statistics on our problem that we are trring to fix, which is cultural ignorance. Now after doing research on the internet, I decided not to use the results I found. I have never been a huge fan of taking statistics from other people’s surveys or whatever just because I don’t think in my situation it would be of much help. So I decided to go down my dormitory and ask some people myself what they know about other peoples and cultures. I also asked questions on politics amongst other things that could tell a lot about people percieve others. For example I asked about 30 people in my dormitory if people should only speak english in this country. 23 people said no, but the other 7 believed that people who now live here should speak English and one other person told me that they find it insulting that people speak different languages while here in America. This person really caught me of guard and I then asked him what was his favorite food. He said Chinese. I then asked him “well don’t you think bringing their language here along with their food should be okay”. He told me ” that’s different”. I don’t think so but I hope that is some ignorance that I can help erradicate with my project.
