Week 8 Letters to Political Figures

426 words by shall3

Last week I learned how African American Criticism is important to Theology. I found out why African Americans are not considering Theology as a major. Some reason are that there is not enough money, the language, and delayed gratification. Even if they wanted to receive a PhD they would have to enroll in an all Caucasian program. Something very interesting that I found out was that Egyptians were neither Black nor White because race was not created back then. This week we were ask to write letters to political or religious leader to notify others about our project and hopefully receive additionally help. The people that I have decided to right letters are: our future President Barack Obama, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu, and Louisiana’s Governor Bobby Jindal. I feel that Obama should be reached out to because he will hold a powerful position and he is willing to make changes. Nagin, in so many words has a lot of control over the city and control over government spending. I feel that Mary Landrieu will make an impact and she is willing to work for low income families. Jindal also has a lot of financial control and where money should go. Here is a sample of what my letters will look like. Some things will change depending of whom I am writing the letter to, but they will follow this format.

Dear Barack Obama:

I am currently working on a community service project to benefit the less fortunate in New Orleans, Louisiana. I have decided to do a clothing drive and after receiving all of the clothes I will set up a pick station for people to come and pick up the clothes. At this time I am working with a classmate to do other volunteer work at local community centers. The reason I am writing this letter is to ask that when elected as the new president of the United States that you offer help to residents of New Orleans. As you many know majority of the people living in New Orleans live below poverty and I feel that it is time for a change. I have lived here all of my life and I have rarely seen any changes inspired by the government. I hope that you take into consideration my request and that maybe you could help expand my project and help build a better New Orleans. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sierra Hall
