Dear Dr. Boutte,
Hello Dr. Boutte my name is Sondra Willis and I am a sophomore here a Xavier University. I am currently enrolled in a Theology course. In this course we are implementing a project to make the world a better place. After much consideration, I decided to discuss the one of the problems that is facing the world. Many of us all know about poverty around the world, and how it has impacted many people, but some people don’t realize that a lot of poverty is found right in their own city. Especially after Hurricane Katrina, the poverty level has risen drastically in New Orleans, Louisiana and the surrounding areas. The plan that I decided to implement at first wasn’t challenging enough in order to make a drastic change in the world. I was going to just donate clothes to the Good Will or Bridge House, but then I realized I could take it to the next level. What I decided to do was to go to a local school and in conjunction with an event that they are planning, provide men, women, and children’s clothing for the students and their parents. A fellow class member and I will organize all of the clothes, make sure they are clean, and size them according to what goes in what category. When the project becomes successful, we plan to take it to more schools, churches, and different areas that we know that need this support. We decided to do this project in conjunction with a school because the kids love nights where they can come and play games, get something to eat, and on top of that get free, nice clothes. Most of these children come from low income families where their parents are not able to afford various clothing that some of us can get in a blink of an eye. Some people might not think that this will able to be established, but I really think that if I keep pursuing this, anything is possible. Just by researching this project, and finding out what the exact statistics are for how many low income families there are, and how much money we waste on insignificant things, I realized that something has to be done in order affect a change.
I also plan to bring this project to a level where we can be able to put up a community center to help out low income individuals and give them advice on how to get a job, manage finances and more. I also want to have people there that will be able to council them on different problems that they are facing, and they need some support to solve it. In my freshman year, when I attended Freshman Seminar, you were my teacher. I remember a community service project that we had to do during the semester. When I participated in the community service project and gave clothes to Bridge House, I felt really great that I could give something away. I realized that if I felt that good about giving clothes away, just think about how I would feel if I was able to actually give clothing to children and parents and see face to face how they feel when I was able to give it to them. If there is anything that you can do to contribute to this new project I will greatly appreciate it. I have a really positive feeling that this project will excel and become even better as it evolves. Thank you for listening.
Sincerely,
Sondra Willis

The other three people that I will give this letter to will be Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans. The Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama, and also the New Orleans School Board (also including some Jefferson Parish schools also). I also am changing some of the stuff that I wrote in the letter to better suit the person that I am writing to. For example when I write to Barak Obama, I will tell him exactly where my school is located etc. For Mayor Ray Nagin I really don’t have to tell him I realized that poverty is very heavy in New Orleans, because I am pretty sure that he knows that, also the New Orleans/Jefferson Parish School Boards are the most influential one because I will need them to give me the okay in order to come to there schools and implement the plan. Also Barack Obama will be a very influential person to give this letter to because if he is elected into office he can enact change in the entire United States. Mayor Ray Nagin can also help implement this plan because he is the Mayor of New Orleans and he can also start change and begin the process in New Orleans.
African American Critism helped me learned how it affects Theology. A lot of people don’t pursue Theology, but I found out the reason why they really don’t pursue it. Fewer minorities don’t pursue a major in Theology because fewer minorities are higher in learning. Also there isn’t a lot of money to be made and in addition to that they have to learn plenty of languages and also there is a delay of gratification. When people ask the question were the Egyptians black or white, what exactly pops in to your head. Well, according the Frank Yucco, they were neither black nor white because back in those days color didn’t even exist. In the article they also discuss what color was Nefertiti, because of the doll the portrayed her as white. Later on the article does say the Nefertiti was black. The article show pictures of other mummies like Yuya (could have been Nefertiti’s grandfather) and Seqenen-Re Tao to determine was the Egyptians black or white. The Egyptians didn’t even think like this because the Egyptians were all different shades and colors. African American Critism helps Bible scholars because it helps them determine what color were people in the Bible that lived in various areas.
