Week 11
Sorry about my blog being a day late, but I had it written I was just unable to get to a computer to type it. Thank you to all my fellow classmates who offered encouraging words to help me with completing my project. Many have offered help and advice which is greatly appreciated. I have actually completed my project and there are details in my week twelve blog with pictures at the end. There are various differences between source and textual criticism. For starters I will give a definition of each one. Criticism can be used when judging passages or scriptures from the bible. When judging bible passages using textual criticism, shorter is better and the more difficult to read is preferred. When using source criticism people refer to the laws of the torah which was written by Moses. Another question that was asked for this week was the story of Tobit, which is very interesting. Tobit lives in Nenaba where he buries people. By a city by city wall a bird poops in his eye causing him to be blind. He wants to die and at the same time there is a girl named Sarah who also wants to die. She wants to die because every time she gets married a Egyptian demon show up and kill the husband, forcing her to remain a virgin. So Tobit tells his son Tobias to go get his money for people who owed him before he dies. Tobias travels with Saint Raphael who puts his foot into a river, a fish bites him and Raphael catches it saves the heart, gallbladder, and etc. Along the journey Tobias meets Sarah and he wants to marry her. To save his life, Tobias digs his grave and when the demon comes Raphael traps him with the fish heart and takes him away. Tobit then rubs the fish gallbladder in his eyes and he can now see again. The lesson learned in this story is that there is hope and that one must be patient because god will help you but only when he feels that the time is right. The name Maccabee means hammer. The first Maccabee is Judas who was known for beating up Hellenistic people. The book of Maccabee is in the Apocrypha which inspires Hanukah. The Maccabees are considered heroic because of all the people they defeated during their time.
Week 12
I am proud to say that even though I had to squeeze my project in within homework and schoolwork, I have successfully completed my clothing drive project. Even though I had planned on doing it one way, it came out totally different with some great results. My original plan was to collect clothes along with my job offering discounts to customers who donate clothes and bring the clothes to Bridgehouse to benefit the poor. But what I actually did was team up with Sondra Willis and collected clothes from family friends, and co-workers, went to Marjorie Elementary School’s Fall Fest and allowed the families to take the clothes. We went there with over six trash bags of clothes (plus we still had clothes we were unable to pick up before the fest) and left with about six pairs of pants. To say we only stood out there for an hour, because it was almost over when we go there because we got out of school so late, the turn out was great. I was surprised to see how excited the kids were because I did not think anyone would want the clothes. But the parents where excited and there were many people who were able to leave with bags of clothes. So in my opinion the project was a success and at the end of the blog you can see pictures of my project. I was asked if my project was counter cultural and I feel that it was not against or the opposite of what people would expect. So in that case my project was not counter cultural because it helped various people instead of doing the opposite of what they expected. Jesus was deemed as counter cultural because he was nothing like they had expected. Jesus was a messiah who was/ is known for healing, teaching, and giving hope to destitiue and demonstrates KOG in action. When the people of Rome asked for a messiah who would be war like and essentially the total opposite of Jesus. But for Jesus and us being counter cultural worked on his and our behalf.
Week 13
The main reason why I choose my project was to help benefit poor people and make a part of there lives easier. I feel that I have helped change the world by starting small and actually completing my project. Many people brag and complain about what needs to be done and how they will fix it. But most people want to fix problems all over the world at one time, but if that was possible it would have been done by now. The best way to improve the world is to start small and work your way up. I have started at an elementary school, and the children who received the clothes learned a valuable lesson. And one day they will be the future for the world and they hopefully will remember how they felt on that day and may plan to implement there own project. But I feel that I have helped the world by recognizing, addressing, and fixing my problem. Everything starts off small, even my project and one day it will grow to help more than just an elementary school. Jesus was crucified over his religion and because he tipped over tables in the courtyard. Jesus was also going around correcting people wrongs, such as people break a commandant by drawing Caesar’s picture. Pontius Pilate says that he does not want anything to do with Jesus’ death and that he washes his hands. Jesus was arrested on Thursday, followed by his trail, crucified on Friday, and resurrected on Sunday
