I responded to the people that left comments on my blog already. The difference between source and textual that source criticism studies and analyzes text from the Bible, while textual criticism is somewhat the same to literary criticism. Tobit was a Jewish man. He followed his religion and kept the opinions of the Jews. He lived in Ninevah . He buried Jews where he was from but he wasn’t supposed because it was against the law. Many of the Jews that he buried were killed for being Jewish. When the king found out that Tobit was burying died Jews he was exiled from where he lived. After the king died Tobit returned to his homeland and continued to bury the dead Jews until he lost his sight. After losing his sight Tobit prayed for his own death. The main lesson of this story to me is the plan that God has for people’s lives. Your plan for your life, may not always line up with the plan God has for you. The better plan in God’s plan anyway!!!! I think that Maccabee is thought as heroic because he is the reason why Hanukah got started. Hanukah is a very important holiday for Jewish people because it is a time when they give back to the God. Maccabee is also seen as a hero because he beat Antiochus and seized God’s temple back.
This is my week 12 blog in week 11 lol. My project is coming along really well. The word has been spread about how I have helped the two girls that live next door to me and now there are 4 other kids that I tutor on Saturday. This is so great. To the parents who just started sending their kids to my home I told them that the tutoring would be absolutely free of charge to them, but all 4 of the new parents insisted on paying me 20 dollars each time I tutored a child. This is truly a blessing that I have been able to help put some kids not seeking a reward, but inherited one anyway. I thanked all of the people that commented on my week 9 blog, in which they gave some very insightful feedback that was greatly appreciated. My picture that shows the implementation of my plan will be at the bottom of this blog entry. Now on to the second question. It is indeed a very interesting question. How was Jesus countercultural??? I believe that Jesus was seen as counter cultural in that he lived his life the right way. It was free from sin. He was also counter cultural in that he did incredible miracles that ordinary people could not perform. Jesus lived his life as a pure individual. He taught the good word of his father God. He died for the sins of the world and that in itself is very counter cultural. How many people do you know would die for your sins??? NONE! Jesus performed great miracles like for example when he feed the multitude with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Who could feed a multitude of people and only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish? Nobody you know I’m sure, but Jesus did and for those things, I do believe that he was seen as a counter cultural being. He has done the impossible time and time again.
This is to answer week 13 blog. Since the beginning of my project I have tried to figure out a way to reach some young people to help them with their education by tutoring them. My plan started as a big plan to somehow change the way East Baton Rouge Parish School System is doing in terms of test scores, which was a bit farfetched as I have come to see. I am now working on a smaller scale to help a small group of grade school students with their homework through tutoring. I figure that I am helping some kids that are in the system better understand something’s that they don’t, and who knows it may be a concept covered on the test. Maybe one of the kids will get a question right on the test because they remembered something that we went over together and remember what we talked about and did. I do believe that I have made a great difference in the lives of many of the kids that I have tutored because they have told me things that have made me feel really good about what I have done. After this project is over I will continue to tutor these kids and will probably pick up many more in New Orleans where I currently reside most of the time. I just knew I had to come back to my hometown and help these kids here because the school system is in a terrible state. Now on to the last question of the week 13 blog. Oh and by the way, my next picture will be at the end of this blog as well. The question asked is Why was Jesus crucified???? Many of the accounts on this question have said that Jesus was crucified because he claimed to be the King of the Jews. The Romans thought that this was false and wanted him dead. This statement however is true. Jesus is the King of the Jews and the savior of the world. Jesus’ dying wasn’t in vain though. He died for the people that he loved so much. Sure crucifying him was a terrible act but Jesus and God loved us very much and that is why he died in our place on the cross, so that we could live our lives. That is a high price to pay, but Jesus paid it and for that I am very grateful and I personally am a Christian and I will serve God for the rest of my life. I would lastly like to wrap this blog up with a quick note, saying that I have really enjoyed this class and that I would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t taken theology yet.
