Throughout history, most Christians have always believed that the end of this world would come during their lifetime. This assumption is brought about by the many natural disasters, political corruptions, endless war fighting and many other situations that leave lots of people hopeless. As Christians we are taught to look toward the bible for guidance when we don’t understand what is going on in our lifetime. Most people take the events that are happening today and compare them with the events described in the book of Revelations. Christians depend on God to help us to see our way out of everything and when events happen that cause of to lose partial faith we sometimes feel that the end is near and our God is ready to destroy this world and come again to judge and bring his believers to heaven with him. During my lifetime, there has been a couple of situations that led people to believe that the end was near and still is. One example is the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001. As me, my family and friends sat and watch these events occur over and over again on television and as we received calls of the devastation that was taking place we didn’t know what would happen next. Lots of people thought that the events would continue to occur throughout the United States. This tragic event led people to think that the end was near. Another example is Hurricane Katrina. As people lost their lives, and property they began to lose hope in their faith and many felt that God was going to destroy the world as we knew it. This was a very tragic event, and it was only normal that in the midst of all the tragedy people felt that their Christ would be coming again, because they were losing their lives as they knew it. Both of these examples serve to explain that when God tests our faith with situations that seem to lead to no way out, people lose hope and think that the end of the world is soon approaching. When Barack Obama became president elect of our nation, some people thought that he was the anti-Christ and would soon take over the world! As funny as it may be to some, some people actually believed this. One thing that people must realize is that when the end of this world does come, it wont be obvious. Non-believers will not have an opportunity to run to a preacher and ask them to help them get saved because they finally believe that there really is a God. The end of the world will be sudden. On this day, God’s hatred toward sin will be unleashed and he will be the ultimate judge of our faith and beliefs. No one truly knows when the end of the world will come. People just acknowledge tragic events in their lifetime and connect them with the end of the world.
The only movie that I can remember watching in this Theology course was the movie on archaeology. If there was another one, it might have been the one time I was absent from class. Therefore I will blog about the movie I did see. The archaeology movie was very interesting. There were lots of unfamiliar terms that were used to describe the methods archaeologist use to discover buried artifacts, and pottery, and even cities, and buildings. I think it is quite amazing how these people dedicate their lives to discovering the hidden history beneath the earth as we know it now, and discovering the truths about biblical people and stories. Lots of techniques were mentioned in the movie. Some of these included; typology, stratigraphy, and diagnostic. Each of these techniques allows the archaeologist to either date, identify, or determine what they find. Archaeology is a pretty neat field to become apart of, and they are able to visit sites that I could only dream of.
It’s funny that we are asked to blog our thoughts on our overall grade for this course. Most of us would blog how much we deserve an A and nothing less. That is until we discover what an A in this course really says about what we have done the entire semester. In my opinion, I feel like I have earned either an A- or a B+. As far as the blog entries go, I have completed each of the assigned blogs. In each week, I have exceeded or almost the 1000 word criteria. My blog entries are pretty much free of grammatical error and I try and answer all the assigned questions. When reading my blog entries you can see that I read the assigned readings and reflected on them with understanding. I feel like I had a firm understanding on most of the readings that we were assigned to read. As far as my project goes, I would not say that I have made a definite impact on the world. However, I would say that my project is educating a lot of people who would of probably not truly known the facts about poverty and how it affects people. I did implement my project and I believe that I should receive some credit for that. I plan to do more with the project. It contained a large scope and will be a lasting duration. Making an impact on the world is a big job but it is possible and I feel that progression of my project and implementation of some further details of the project could possibly impact the world one day. I really feel that my overall grade for the class should be passing. I feel that some aspects of what I have accomplished in this class the semester were above average. I think that I deserve either an A or a B for my overall grade for this course this semester. I wish that each of my teachers would allow us to tell them what we feel like we deserve in their class. This is pretty interesting and it is very cool!
