WEEK 12

This would be week 12 and unfortunalty, my project isn’t going anywhere. I still have yet to hear from the Big Brother Big Sister organization on Canal and I am starting to give up on the dream of them ever responding to my application. This has caused me to think of other ways to help stop violence but my mind is truly drawing a blank. I dont know how I can impact the world, so I decided to try to start smaller. I went to a forum for domestic violence awareness and tried to use the information I obtained there as a foundation to inform others about itm since it is a type of violence. I went to my dorm advisor and asked if we could have some type of dorm meeting to inform people on this issue. She told me I had to write a letter to Ms. Bracy, the dorms supervisor and tell her about my idea because I wanted to have the discussion in the Living Learning Center and St. Katherine Drexel hall. I wrote and sent the letter and I am waiting for her answer, while still waiting on the Big Brother Big Sister organization to contact me. Whew! This is so nerve wrecking!
Jesus is considered counter cultural because he does what is right at all times, no matter what the consequences. Counter cultural is defined as going against social norms, or ideas or beliefs that go against the mainstream opinion of others. Jesus chooses to do the right thing even when faced with death. He took the risk of people hating him, just to stick to his morals. I wish I was strong enough to do what he did. In his case, there is no such thing as peer pressure, only what he believes and knows is right. I don’t think my project is going against any cultural norms, so I would have to say no, it s not counter cultural.
