Week 2: Three Problems

The three most important problems I see facing the world today are global warming, violence around the world, and poverty. I believe these things effect each and every one of us no matter who we are. Although these things are our biggest problems, it is us humans who caused them.
There has always been violence from every corner of the world ever since the world was created. The root of this problem is hatred. Hatred sets each other apart and as long as it still exists, there will be no peace on Earth. It is also nearly impossible to get rid of hatred because there always a reason to hate someone and it doesn’t have to be a good reason either, yet it makes us human because no one is perfect. We live in a time where technology has grown tremendously for better and for worse. There are weapon that can be used to destroy millions of lives in a matter of days. Sadly enough, there are countries that would like to get their hands on these weapons to show their military might and use them on their enemies. We may enter a nuclear war tomorrow if certain actions take place. Violence doesn’t necessarily have to take place at a global scale. It can be created at a place you call home. Suppose you grew up with an abusive parent or knew someone who was abused. Violence can erupt any hour of the day. Hatred can only generate more hatred, and the vicious cycle continues. Or perhaps you live in a neighborhood where violence is part of a lifestyle, such as being a gang member. The point of the matter is violence can happen anywhere at any time.
Global warming is a problem because everything is changing so quickly and we are not able to adapt in time. Global warming causes severe climate changes, which can lead to massive storms, shortages in crops, animal extinction, etc. Obviously all those things are very bad. If global warming isn’t taken seriously, the problem will only worsen and may lead to the end of our very own existence. These massive storms, such as Hurricane Katrina, have already affected many lives. It can destroy an entire city and kill thousands especially those in developing countries. It devastated my own life because I was not aware of its full potential. There may well be even more powerful storms in the near future. It may even affect our daily lives, even if we don’t even know it. How you may ask? It can be as simple as the temperature. We are starting to see a dramatic rise in temperature. Winters are shorter and summers are longer. Certain crops aren’t able to be produced because the climate changed so much, which means prices are going up. All of these things are unpredictable, which is why we must find a solution before it is too late.
Nobody wants to live in poverty. Poverty leads to things such as crime. Humans like most living things must have these basic things to survive: food, clothing, and shelter. If we do not have these basic needs, we ultimately die. But because we do not want to die, we have to do what is necessary for us to have those things. Luckily for most of us, we grew up in a home with family that takes care for each other. Our parents have jobs that can pay for our basic needs, and we are being educated so that one that we can have jobs to support one another. Unfortunately, there are people who do not have those privileges. Those people are living in poverty do not have these basic needs and, therefore, struggle to live. So to survive they find alternative means to obtain it. Those who live in poverty may do things such as steal, or go as far as to kill for a bite to eat. I am not saying that they are bad people, but they do what they have to do to get by. We live in hard times now and poverty seems to be growing all around the world.
We all try to make our world a better place to live, but it isn’t easy. These things are very terrible things to have happened. However, we are not alone. There are people willingly to dedicate their lives to change these problems for the better.
I believe I can change poverty by doing well in school and earn a good job. With a good paying job, I can use the extra money to donate it to charity or create a project to prevent poverty. I want to educate people about poverty so that they too can lend a helping hand. Hopefully they can nourish the hidden skills and talents of those living in poverty so they can return to society as a successful, working member. With their own experiences, they can help others by sharing their own stories about the trials and tribulations they went through. And it will just go on and on like a ripple in a puddle.
There is no such thing as the Bible because it was written at a much later time by different people. The stories in which the Bible takes place spread by word of mouth at the time it took places especially during the times of the Old Testament. Over time, the stories may have been altered because it wasn’t recorded. When it was finally documented, the people who recorded it were already hundreds or perhaps thousands of years ahead of that time. Also, there may have been different accounts of what actually happened. Even when the Bible was created, different versions of the Bible were going to be made later in the future for specific religious readers such as the Jews with their Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) or the Roman Catholics with their own version of the Bible that contains Apocrypha. Today, they are Bibles with many different languages for audiences around the world.
