When we were asked to do this project I thought long and hard about what I could do. I thought about what could I possibly do to change the world and thought that I would not be able to do it. I then thought about how a lot of students are not enthused or worried about education at all. They think that school is just somewhere they have to go and waste their time. They go to school simply because they have to and not because they want to better themselves. I thought about when I was in high school how some students just did what they had to to “get by.” Alot of my fellow classmates did not put forth the effort. They did not perform up to their full potential. I figured I should do something to try to reach young students starting with those in my local neighborhood. A lot of their parents had them when they were young and simply do not care about their children’s education. They let their children roam the streets and do not check to make sure their homework is done or that they studied for a test that they may have the next day. I felt that it is really sad that they do not have anyone to support them and encourage them to do the absolute best that they can do. I feel that we need to encourage children and explain to them the importance of going to school and being the best that they can be. I feel that if children had at least one person behind them then they would go so much farther in life. Children need to understand that there is more to life than what they may see on television. They need to understand that doing things half way will not get them far. It is hard, especially for African Americans, to lead a successful and comfortable life without a solid education. I really want to see everyone succeed. I also wanted to do as much as I could to help lower the teen pregnancy rate. I feel that if they were interested in school and succeeding solely they would do everything they could to keep from getting pregnant. If they understood how important education is they would not want to do anything to make their getting an education a harder task than it really is. They would want to do things in order which means receiving an education first. A lot of teens also “live in a box” as I like to call it. They look around and all they see that their parents had them at a young age and their parents’ parents had them at a young age so they believe that this is the norm. They start to think that getting pregnant and having a lot of children is the only way to go. I really wanted to choose a project where I could really make a difference.

I have done many things to implement my project. I have talked to various teenagers explaining to them the importance of education. I talked to them seriously about this issue and how they need to stop doing things half way because half way will only get a person so far. I explained to the teenagers that they need to go above and beyond what they are expected to do. I feel that I have really made a difference in these young people’s lives. I belive that I really got through to each and everyone of the teenagers. At first I thought that they would not take me seriously but I received that complete opposite reaction. I guess that decided to be open minded about the situation because for once they were not being told by an adult. I think that hearing a person closer to their age telling them about the importance of getting an education and how becoming a teenage parent is hard and is not the way to go really helped them see the light. Children need positive role models close to their age. If they see people they know doing well and succeeding they will want to do the same. This is why I chose to first focus on teenagers and younger children in my neighborhood. I feel that before going to outsiders trying to help them, I need to help those that I know first that need the help. I feel that it is very important for the young people in my neighborhood and in my family to follow in my footsteps and go in a positive direction instead of just becoming a part of the cycle. I think my project went really well and I plan to continue talking to young teens even after i finish this class. I feel that this is just something that needs to be done.

Jesus was crucifed because the Romans did not like that fact that he was claiming to be the king of the Jews. Jesus was going around preaching about a new kingdom, and the Romans thought that Jesus was trying to take over. They did not understand that the kingdom Jesus was talking about was not here on earth but in heaven. Jesus was also claiming to be the Messiah and this frightened them. Jesus was also going around performing miracles and preaching “the good news” to everyone. He gained many followers that believed in him and this kingdom he was talking about. Jesus knew that this could be a bad thing but he knew this was what he was sent to do. He knew that this was the reason for his birth. Jesus attended the annual passover and there he was referred to as the Messiah. This shocked the Roman leaders. They were also frightened when they saw how many followers Jesus actually had. They felt threatened by this “Messiah” or “King of the Jews.”  Anyone claiming to be a king of any kind would be punished which was usually be crucifixion. The Romans wanted to kill Jesus because of his claiming to be the Messiah. They mocked him. They also accused Jesus of starting a rebellion. Jesus was also asked by Herod to perform a miracle, and Jesus refused. Jesus refused because he knew that Herod doubted him and did not believe that he was in deed the Messiah. So basically Jesus was crucified for blasphemy and claiming to be the “Messiah” and the “king of the Jews.”
