Week 9: Implementation

This week, we were told to focus on how the implementation of our project is proceeding, so my intentions are to report the progress I have made. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to post a video on U-tube due to not having the appropiate equipment to do so. However, I have created a facebook group dedicated to the issue of global warming. I intend on posting or sending out messages to everyone who joins my facebook group, to constantly remind them of the struggle that is going on against global warming. Via my facebook group, I also intend on sharing the latest news about global warming with my supports and easy ways that they can contribute.
Instead of distributing flyer amongst the city, I have decided to post flyers around Xavier University’s campus. The first step to this plan is to get the flyers approved first by Xavier’s Office of Student Activities; pictures of the flyer will be up soon. The way that I am going to draw in attention to the flyers is through the use of neon, or highly bright, colors. I want my flyer to be distinguish amongst the pile of other posts that are seen on around campus. Although I said I will employ neon colors, I don’t want the colors to be too bright to where people have to struggle to see the flyer. I feel like Xavier students should be more aware of the problems of global warming. Each year classes are at risk to be interrupted by a threat from a hurricane, so students should pay attention more to global warming because it induce the development of more violent storms, including hurricane. Virtually, every year we are told to evacuate New Orleans in response to the likelihood of a hurricane threat.
In my effort of contributing to the fight against global warming, the action that I am most proud of is the planting of a couple trees. I decided to plant a tree in front of my house, but I must’ve mistaken a indoor treat as an outdoor tree because it isn’t growing as much as I expected it to grow. In addition, after talking to my mom, I convinced her to plant a garden in front of our house, which now consist of a bunch of baby plants. Recently, my father has been doing landscaping and a couple of times I have joined him. Along with his friend, my father plants trees, plants, shrubs and a number of other things that can help in the counter global warming. There are so many actions of mankind that are contributing to problems of global warming. For example, when humans carry out the process of deforestation, forest full of trees are destroyed and replaced with some type of man-made development. Deforestation is known amongst the main contributors to the greenhouse effect, which causes global warming.
After this semester, my effort in fighting global warming will not cease. My household and I have taken some of the measures to contribute in the fight against global warming. For example, all appliances that are not in use are usually unplugged throughout the day and we have a programmable thermostat, which enables us to reduce the amount of energy we use throughout the day. When using a programmable thermostat, we can set a certain temperature and when the house reaches that temperature, the heating or cooling system shuts off. I know that as one person, I cannot resolve the problems created by global warming, but I can help in some ways and that’s all that matters. Hopefully, global warming will be taken more serious in the near future, let’s just hope that it’s not too late by then!
What makes a good king according to the Deuteronomistic Historian? According to the Deuteronomistic Historian, a good king is one that is limited by the laws given to him by God. In addition, a good king puts the law before him and his people, meaning that to the divine laws, he stands equal with his people in position. Deuteronomistic Historians also believed that a good king was limited by the words of prophets, which also came from Gods. A good king obeys the law and enforce it upon his people as well; enforces policies such as monotheism.
Would the Deuteronomistic Historian approve of George W. Bush? I don’t think that the Deuteronomistic Historian would approve of George W. Bush because when he was president. The reason I don’t believe the Deuteronomistic Historian will approve of George W. Bush is because he did not care enough for the citizens of the United States. For example, after Hurricane Katrina, help was not sent immediately to the City of New Orleans. The Deuteronomistic Historian approves of a king that interacts with his the people of his land. The type of king that the Deuteronomistic Historian approve of is one who spread the expectations of God from the law given upon him. George W. Bush did not communicate with the citizens of this country. While George W. Bush was in office, citizens were “left in the dark” on the issues of many problems that the country is facing. I think that George W. Bush doesn’t even fit the description as a good leader because the people of this country were not his main priority. In addition, I don’t think that stirring up wars was in the description of what a Deuteronomistic Historian would approve.
What is the worst thing that David did? In summary, the worse thing David did was when he ordered to have one of his own soldiers killed just so he could wed the soldier’s wife. This occurs after David becomes the Hebrew King. One day, King David takes a stroll and lays his eyes on a beautiful lady by the name of Bathsheba, who was the wife of Urias, a soldier at war. After laying his eyes on Bathsheba, King David felt the need to have her, so he orders his military commander to place Urias on the front line in order for him to be killed, so that he could have Bathsheba. As he command, the military commander puts Urias on the front line at war and Urias is killed. As a result, King David weds Bathsheba and she gives birth to his son. However, because of the sin that King David committed, but was unaware of, his son dies after seven days.
Describe the Jerusalem Temple. What is the history of the first and second temples? The Jerusalem Temple was built by King Solomon. It consists of a series of structures built on the holiest site in Jerusalem. Once you go up the stairs of the Jerusalem Temple you enter entrance hall, which leads to the holy area where the shrewbread is. From the holy area, you can take some stairs which will lead to a room known as the holiest holy area. The holiest holy area is believed to have been the place where the Ark, containing the ten commandments was. The Jerusalem Temple was known as the center of religion in Judaism; it is know as the first temple. The first temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586B.C.E, four hundred years after it was built. However, seventy years later, the second temple was built on the ruins of the first time. Herod the Great is accredited with the construction of the second temple. The second temple was also destroyed by the Romans in 70C.E. Both temples served as the center of Jewish worship.

Your project seems to be headed in a positive direction. Sorry things didn’t work out on youtube for you. Global warming is something that everyone should be very well aware about. Global warming is one thing that isn’t stressed enough. Otherwise Good job and I hope the best for you. Just so you know I’m doing 2 projects at the time. The first project is of course volunteering at Children’s Hospital, however the second project allows me to interact with the people of the Lower Ninth Ward. You’d really be surprised to see how one simply conversation and acting nice can go. It seems like after Katrina people just forgot about the less fortunate, people living in the Lower Ninth Ward. Everyone is human and deserves to be treated like one so I give them the attention they need.

I am happy to some progress in regards to your project! Just as “leedatboy” said I am sorry that your project did not work out completely as planned, but the steps that it did take count for so much! Global Warming is something that needs to be taken very seriously and some people have the nerve to think it does not exist. A Xavier student was once sitting in class with me and said “global warming does not exist”, the sad part is he was serious so my teacher had to inform him that there is significant proof that it does. GET THOSE FLYERS UP SOON!! WE NEED THEM!! good work and good luck!!

Your project seems to be going well. Global warming is definitely a problem that we all need to be educated on. I think you will be able to inform a lot of people with your facebook page, since just about everyone is always on there. The flyers will also be a great way to inform others about the problem. Good luck and I hope that your project continues to go in a positive direction.

Your project is very creative. Planting a tree and gardens to counter global warming was an excellent idea. For your flyers I think you can give somefacts in what causes global and ways we can individually contribute. It would be interesting to see whatt you actually come up with. The facebook group was a good idea as well. I was just wondering how that is coming becaue usually when people send me facebook group I just ignore them. So, how is that coming. How many members do you have?

This is a very creative method responding to your project. I think that global warming is a serious issue that many individuals dont pay a lot of attention to because they dont feel like it affects them yet but it is and they just dont know it. Hopefully by creating a facebook and getting more college student involved more individuals will be aware of the growing concern with this situation.

I like how you are getting your whole family involved in your effort to fight global warming. Planting a tree is a really cleaver thing to do as well as making a garden. It had to take a little time to do the garden so that is cool that you stuck to actually completing it. I wish you luck on your flyers and I will be looking out for them.

You project seems like it is going pretty well. I am glad that you are doing your project on global warming. I really like how your family members are also involved in your project and the fact that you took the time to create a facebook group. Awareness is a really great way in trying to fight a problem.
