I would like to say thank you for everyone who has taken the time to comment on my blogs. I hope everyone has read my project, and I hope all of my classmates got a good insight as to how my project is coming along. I would like to acknowledge the people who have taken the time to write specific comments on my week 9 blog. Unfortunately, I only had a few comments so I am also going to look back on my week 3 blog and acknowledge the new comments posted there as well.
Mdeloach7—Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on my project. I really appreciate all of your positive input. Second Harvesters was a wonderful experience, and I am definitely going to go back. You should really look into volunteering there because by donating just an hour of your time, you are making a huge difference in the world. I am glad to hear that you noticed our boxes, and it is really encouraging to know others feel that my project is a good idea. Thank you for all of your feedback, and I also wish you the best of luck with the end of the semester.
Yaesha—Thank you so much for all of your support. I also agree that the children will be extremely happy. I am glad that you noticed how much I care about this issue and the children’s well being. I hope your project is coming along as smoothly as mine, and I wish you the best of luck on your project. Thank you for everything, and I am so happy to know that you truly think my project is making a difference in people’s lives.
Mwallac1— It is wonderful to hear that other people agree with how serious the issue of poverty is. Poverty is something that affects the entire world, and I am so glad that you also want this problem resolved. I did put a lot of time and effort into this project, and I am so happy to know that you noticed how hard I worked. I want you to know that I really appreciate your suggestion, and I will try my hardest to carry that out within the next week. I agree that many students in the University are willing to help because our donations in the food drive reflected that. Thank you for all of your wonderful comments, and I wish you the best of luck with the end of the semester.
Nuwaezuo—Thank you so much for all of your comments. It is wonderful to hear that someone else also volunteered at Second Harvesters. I hope your experience was as great as ours. We spent a lot of to time at Second Harvesters and I know that it truly made a difference. It is wonder to know that you also volunteered because this means the amount of food processed was even larger. I am also happy to hear that you will be donating to “Xavier Cares.” We worked really hard to organize the food drive and it is really fulfilling to know others recognize our devotion. I hope your project is coming along great. Thank you for everything and good luck throughout the end of the semester.
According to Wikipedia, “Source criticism is particularly concerned with identifying potential sources and precursors of the text we have now.” Basically source criticism looks at the sources used by an author to write a particular Scripture. In using source criticism, the critic must analyze past sources that helped the author understand the material, and determines what inspired and/or informed the author to write about that particular topic. In contrast textual criticism studies that the actual Scriptures, and pays very little attention to the sources behind the Scripture. Another difference between the two is that source criticism is considered a form of higher criticism; whereas, textual criticism is known as a lower criticism.
The book of Tobit, is about a young Israelite man who is held in captivity by the Assyrians. Tobit is married to a woman named Anna, and together they have a son named Tobias. Tobit’s job is to bury the dead, which in this time was against the king’s orders. Tobit fell asleep in a grave one night after burying an individual. While sleeping, he obtained a large amount of bird droppings in his eyes. As a result Tobit becomes blind, and he is very frustrated and depressed. He then remembers that he has an unpaid debt, and he goes on a quest to find a man in Media who owes him money. Throughout the journey, Tobit and his partner, Raphael, experience many hardships. They kill fish for food, but they save the heart, liver, and gall bladder as protection against possible medical problems. On the journey Tobit meets a woman by the name of Sarah, and the two of them fall in love and get married. Sarah’s father dislikes Tobit and conjures up a plan to kill Tobit on the wedding night. Tobit discovers this plan, and he burns the heart, liver and gall bladder of the fish to help drive away a demon. When Tobit returns home, his family rubs the fish gall bladder in his eyes and his blindness is healed. The main lesson of this story is to inspire others. The story explains with vivid imagery that no matter how bad a situation gets for some people, there are always ways to improve life.
Maccabees is considered heroic to some people because he defeated the king of his time period when everyone else was afraid to. Many people find this heroic because although the king has ultimate power, it doesn’t mean that the decisions made by the King are good decisions. By defeating the king Maccabees is demonstrating that no matter whom the person is, they still can make the right decisions. This is heroic because it is setting a good example of strength, courage, and devotion. In the book of Maccabees it says, “We will not obey the king’s words by straying from our religion either to the right or the left.” This quote shows that it is truly heroic to go against the king’s wishes and stay true to God.
