Week 11: Respond Again

I would like to thank those who made time to comment the efforts made on my implenting my project. First, I would like to thank Leander for the support and sympathy for me not being able to produce a video on Youtube. Hopefully, my flyers will work out just fine and everyone can take the measures listed on my flyers to help make the world a better place. In respond to mdeloach7, the flyers should be posted around school anytime now. I also think that pure ignorance is what the student exhibit who said, “global warming does not exist.” Hahaha…very foolish. To a certain extent, I think that people owe it to themselves to become more aware of what’s going on in the world around them, not just concerning global warming. Yaesha, I think that my facebook group will be a valuable source to help me inform people about the issue of global warming, saying as though you can pretty much request the world to join. Hopefully, my project continue to proceed in the direction that it is going in. Thanks for the positive feedback and good luck. In response to Janet, I do think that the flyers are a good way to inform students around the campus about global warming. I just have to get the flyers printed out. As for Demetria’s comment, I don’t have many members in my facebook just yet. However, keep in mind, that I started the facebook group recently, so I’m sure in a few weeks, I’ll have a couple hundred active members. To mwallac1, I will like to thank you for your positive feedback, and I am hoping just as well that my flyers and my facebook group contribute to my effort. I send thanks out to everyone who commented on the implementations of my project and to those who may comment in the future!
What is the difference between source and textual criticism?
Source criticism, also known as the Higher Criticism, is a method used to find the original sources of the Bible. As to say, what sources did the authors, in the Bible, refer to when writing about the events in the Bible. Source criticism examines the authors and what they employed when writing the text in the Bible. According to Wikipedia, ”the closer a source is to the event which it purports to describe, the more one can trust it to give an accurate description of what really happened.” In contrast, textual criticism or Lower Criticism, examines the actual text in the Bible. The purpose of textual criticism is to reconstruct the original text that was composed by someone else. In textual criticism, the most useful reading is the shorter and more difficult text because scribes are known to add on to the original text, as well as skipping over some words. Overall, the big difference between source and textual criticism is that source criticism examines the author and where he got his sources and textual criticism examines the origins of the text only.
Summarize Tobit, and what is the main lesson of this story?
Tobit is a story that is contain within King James Apocrypha. It is the story of a Jewish man named Tobias, the son of Tobit. Tobit, who was known for giving proper burial for those slain by King Sargon II son, Sennacherib. As a result, Tobit was exile from his homeland, Nineveh. However, after Sennacherib dies, Tobit is allowed to return to his homeland. Nevertheless, Tobit still proceeded to give proper burials to those who were not suppose to receive it. Unfortunately, he was blinded when bird droppings fell into his eyes. Tobit sends his son Tobias on a journey to collect money from the lands of Media. For guidance and protection, Raphael, an angel accompanies Tobias. They encounter a huge fish from who they take the heart, liver and gall bladder from for particular usage. In Media, Tobias wishes to marry a woman named Sarah, who has had seven husbands killed by a demon each time she marries. However, with the help of Raphael and the fish’s liver and heart, Tobias is able to marry Sarah. Afterwards, they return to Nineveh and Raphael gives Tobias instructions on how to cure his father using the fish’s gall bladder. Tobit then tells his son to leave Nineveh because of a prophecy that was made about God destroying Nineveh. Therefore, after Tobit dies, Tobias return to Media. I believe that the main lesson of this story is that when you’re given a second chance, you should grasp it and take advantage of it. A person should never make the same mistake twice because a lesson should be learned from being penalized, as a result of their actions, the first time. For example, Tobit was exile from Nineveh because of his actions, but he was allowed to return. However, Tobit proceeded with carrying out the same actions, which resulted in a more crucial consequence.
Why do some people consider the Maccabees to be heroic?
The Maccabees is a Jewish army, rather than a person. People consider the Maccabees to be heroic for many reasons. One reason is because they fought several battles to have the Jews freed, who were prosecuted because of their religious beliefs; the Jews refused to worship or admit to the existence of other gods. The Greeks tried to worship Greek gods. A priest by the name of Mattathias gathered his community and lead them to defy the government, but most of them died along the journey, including Matthathias. However, Mattathias’ sons took charge and lead the survivors to victory against the Syrian army who was sent to defeat them by the Greeks. After their victory, the Maccabees established the Kingdom of Judea that lasted 100 years before it was crumbled by the Romans. The Maccabees display heroism because they were a little band of people who went up against powerful forces, who were more equipped in every way possible. However, the Maccabees fought and fought, resulting in a victorious end of a series of battles.
