Why do most Christians in history believe that the world will end in their lifetimes? Blog your thoughts on what your overall grade for your blog entries and your project should be and why. Here are the criteria

The Book of Revelation aids in Christians’ belief of when the world is going to end.  This is based on their interpretation of the book. Revelation can be a difficult book to understand. It contains many stories with dramatic imagery, and much symbolism that may be hard to interpret.. The Book of Revelation derives its name from ‘apokalypsis’, Greek for ‘uncover’ or ‘reveal’.  Revelation tries to reveal what the events of the end of the world will be, and what will happen after the end.                                                                                                                                       Many Christians in the 1st century AD believed that the end of the world was near and coming during their lifetime partly due to Paul in Thessalonica who was persecuted by the Roman Empire. Since then they believed that the end of the world was aaproaching soon. Doubt began to arise during the 90s when Christians said, “We have heard these things of the end of the world even in the days of our fathers, and look, we have grown old and none of them has happened to us”. In Mark 13:8 passage and as well as Mathew 24:6-8, are often misunderstood as these indicate that the wars and rumours of wars are signs that the End is yet to come, not that it has come. In 130s, Justin Martyr declared God was delaying the end of the world because he wished for Christianity to become a world religion and in the 250s Cyprian wrote that Chrisitians sins of that time were a prelude and prood that the end was near.
Many Christians presently place the end of the world within their lifetime or shortly thereafter. Many of them point to the prolific news coverage of tragedies around the world, sometimes “Biblical” in proportion, and offer interpretations of various passages from the Bible. Also, some Catholics believed that the third part of the Fatima message, which was to be disclosed by the Vatican in 1960 but finally was published under the pontificate of John Paul II, was a prophetic message from the Blessed Mother about the end times, but they now believe it to be a symbolic message closely related to the assassination attempt of the late Pope.
I know a lot of Christians from my hometown who believe in the Raptrue, meaning Christ’s ascension to the Last day of earth and all the events that will take place when the END is near and coming. I know that a lot of people say that in Revelations that it says it will rain for many days usually and that the seasons will change differently. Like it would be cold in the summer time and hot during the coldest times of the year. They say a lot of crime will take place and people will begin to act in a crazy manner. I read when I was younger that before the Rapture every Christian will get the chance to know Jesus as Christ our Lord and Savior, weither they accept him into their lives is their own decision but every being will be given the oppertunity before the end comes. I am personally scared to read the book of Revelation. I feel like all of the things it says in there will scare me, not that I am living my life in disaster or not accordingly but I am just afarid to approach death and it’s comings. I feel that eventually I would like to read it and get a good understanding of it as of the rest of the Bible before its too late. Still other Christians anticipate that biblical prophecy will be fulfilled literally. They see current world and regional wars, earthquakes, hurricanes and famines as the beginning of the birth pains which Jesus described in Matthew 24:7-8and Mark 13:8. For instance, in my very first blog I spoke of how many residents of New Orleans felt that God sent Hurricane Katrina to punish the city for all of the crime and murders that was happening prior to the disaster we all encountered. Many people felt well I felt too that the world was coming to an END as well. When it hit we lost everything and it was a natural disaster so I thought or imagined this was a sign from God that the END was near. Politically I felt the world was near the END as well because I feel that now the government is worst than its ever been in the entire world. I feel like it is hard sometimes to say the pledge of the United States with pride and believe in it. President George W. Bush has led this world into turmoil.

Xavier’s Mission:

The ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.  This preparation takes place in a diverse learning and teaching environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.

I feel that I am taking in everything I have learned and applying it to real life which is fulfilling the goals set for the students of Xavier University.  I have put in an ample amount of effort to make my project successful and it has been.  But during the course of the last semester, I have not been consistent with posting my blogs on time.  Just like many other students, I have worked the blog assigned for the week, but I never completely finished and submitted it on time which is at the end of each school week.  So even though I feel that my project is GREAT, I took all the proper steps in implementing the project, I blogged more than the 1000 words required, and I related my blogs to the information given in class, I deserve a B. This is because of my inability to post on time.  Even though all my blogs will be posted by the FINAL date assigned, I still feel bad because this is not like me to wait until the end to complete an assignment.  So the grade I give myself is a  B.
