Project Accomplishments

Improving the world is not an easy task, especially when you have created a project by yourself and you have to carry along with it as the entire second semester is in session. If you have forgotten, my individual project was on global warming and how to start doing certain things like carpooling, recycling things, unplugging things that are not being used, and looking for the energy star label when shopping for home and business appliances. Doing these things help reduce green house gases from getting in the air and polluting it.

In the course of the past four months, my family and friends have been helping to stop global warming. In January, I sent out an email to everyone on my contact list about my project for Dr. Homan’s theology class. I explained exactly what my project was for and what it was about. I gave them a list a things to do and explained why and how it would benefit the world that we all live in. Since then, they have been doing these almost daily. As far as myself, I have been doing these things without even thinking about them. The list has become the back of my hand. When I am in class or away from my room, the light is always off and so is the television. Even though I am almost always on my lap top, I put it in sleep mode when I am not using it to prevent from using any extra power. Unplugging these things will use less electricity. The more electricity that is being used, the more we need power plants which will only put more gasses in to the air. Every thing is done when I leave from the dorms. I leave the school about one time a week and when I do, I try to run all my errands at one time and carpool with people who also need to go places. I do this and so should you because cars are carbon dioxide machines. Carbon dioxide is bad for the air which only makes the ozone a little worse than it was before. Not only do I drive and ride, but I walk many places too. When stores and fast food restaurants are only within a mile radius from the school, me and many of my friends walk to save the gas in our cars and pollution from getting in the air. My parents thought we needed a new refrigerator recently when I went home a whole week for Mardi Gras. Since we brought the appliance for Sear’s, I reminded my parents about global warming and suggested that we get a refrigerator with the Energy Star Label. The Energy Star label items are more energy efficient and when buying these products, they should not be oversized because it wastes energy and money. Not only are refrigerators Star label products, but so are air conditioners, deep freezers, washing machines, and dishwashers. Not that I made my parents by things that ran on natural gas, but I guess they already knew that our ozone layer was in trouble. In our house, we have a few items that run on natural gas. Our stove, water heater, and clothes dryer are all operated by natural gas; the use of these things saves us from needing to use power plants. I have not gotten to all of the things on my list, but I WILL get them done.

Many may not know why Jesus was crucified, but the explanation of my research should help. The most important accusation against Jesus was that he called himself King of the Jews, according to the gospels. Roman soldiers were said to be disrespectful of the idea when they put a purple robe on him and pushed thorns that were made into a crown on top of his head. Although many thought this was an accurate charge against him, it was called to be false. Jesus had many enemies that invented it by turning the meaning of the old prophesies about the Messiah coming. According to the prophesies, the Messiah was said to be a superior future leader that would come and appear during the time of the last days. By coming at this time, the Messiah would get rid of all evil and set up the most perfect kingdom on earth. On the evil less earth, all of they people could live in joy and peace forever. Most Christians blamed the Jews for the death of Jesus, but they should actually blame the religious leaders of the Jews. The leaders feared him because he was called “The Messiah,” and if more people would start to believe that he was actually the messiah then he would be a serious threat to them. Even though they wanted to crucify him immediately, they had to wait for the order from the Pontius Pilate. Pontius knew that Jesus was innocent, but did not care about saving Jesus. He was more worried about appeasing them. Usually when people got killed they were stoned to death, but the Roman method of punishment was to crucify them. So because of that, the fact is known that he was not killed by the Jews but by the Romans.
